I think my heartburn is going to kill me. Hmm

All joking aside; I haven't a clue what's setting it off, but it loves to appear at about 9pm and keep me awake until god knows when .. like now!

Any solutions?
I'm having gaviscon like it's going out if fashion, and it's great for a few minutes and then I'm back to being burnt from the inside Sad

Me too! My heartburn is really acting up. My app told me that processed foods will cause that and to try to eat naturally. I had taco bell today so it makes sense.

sanityisamyth · 23/06/2020 04:16

I found milkshake helped but seemed to be gallons of the stuff!

EasyPeasyHappyCheesy · 23/06/2020 05:28

If its constant you can ask your gp for something more? I ended up having omeprazole.

Amichelle84 · 23/06/2020 05:36

Just get some omeprazole if you do anything during your pregnancy. I wish I had got it a lot sooner and saved myself weeks of pain.

MrsCl19 · 23/06/2020 05:46

I would try and see if something is setting it off, I was suffering really bad then realised it was my peach squash! Stopped drinking it and it's gone 🤞🏼 when I did have it I was having the gaviscon chewable tablets

sel2223 · 23/06/2020 06:39

I am having the same problem OP, it's awful.
I'm going through gallons of gaviscon and currently sat up in bed at half 6 in the morning drinking milk and eating love heart sweets.
I've seen omeprazole mentioned on a few threads now and thinking the time has come to get some.

ALC1985 · 23/06/2020 07:23

Get to the doctors! I suffered with it with my 1st pregnancy, this time I'd had enough and went to the doctor and got omeprazole, wish I'd do e it with DC1, what a difference! Ps my first baby had a full head of hair and this second baby, on 2 scans the sonographer has commented she can see lots of hair!

Superscientist · 23/06/2020 09:47

It was awful earlier in my pregnancy I was munching on gaviscon through the night and needing to sleep pretty much sat up right. I was prescribed omperazole and it took it away immediately.

Try to remove the obvious potential causes, I read somewhere that milk can make you produce more stomach acid but can't remember where I read it or of it was reliable source. If that doesn't help definitely contact your doctor about some meds. There's no need to suffer unnecessarily.

forestsmurf · 23/06/2020 10:00

Another one here bigging up omeprazol. I was trying to avoid perscription meds for some reason (while chugging back the gaviscon?!) But the omeprazole worked instantly and my days were so much better and hardly need the gaviscon now. Its only a low dose but make such a difference. I have been suffering since 16 weeks. Hope you get it sorted.

happygolucky6 · 23/06/2020 11:25

I don't know if this will help you but when I rang my
GP begging for help with heart burn he said that I should try drinking gaviscon after every snack and meal as a preventive rather than cure to see if that helps. Also don't lie down completely flat prop yourself up slightly at night.

He wouldn't give me a prescription. Well. He would. But he kept on about how it hasn't been tested on pregnant woman (like most medication may I add, it would be most unethical!!!) and if I were to take it it would pose a slight risk to my baby. And he kept saying "you've not got long left so I mean this choice is up to you" so I felt too bad and said it's ok I'll continue on how I am. Oooooh the regrets.

Heart burn is the devil. However drinking gaviscon and alternating with rennies gives some relief.

LJC1234 · 23/06/2020 11:29

Omepralzine ! Honestly I'm not one for taking anything but I was so miserable.. I could not enjoy any food or drinks and I now call these my wonder tablets they literally transformed my pregnancy

havingnumber2 · 23/06/2020 11:49

Get some omeprazole from the doctor. Amazing stuff

havingnumber2 · 23/06/2020 11:50

I drank a lot of milkshake with my first and put on 3 stone Blush
This time round no milkshake, 18 weeks and have gained 1lb.
I'm definitely blaming the milkshake Grin

Autumn1985 · 23/06/2020 15:08

Hi sorry to jump in but can anyone tell me what dose of Omeprazole they found ideal for acid reflux sickness and heartburn? I asked my gp about it and he prescribed, but just went for 10mg as he didn’t really know what to suggest other than Gaviscon - gave me Omeprazole because I requested it. The dosage was far too low so I take 20mg but probably need to go back for a higher dose soon as I’m running out.

Superscientist · 23/06/2020 15:27

I'm on 20mg once a day prescribed by the obstetrician.
Maybe try a different gp?

3isthemagicnumber3 · 23/06/2020 22:14

Mine is often caused by drinking anything, even water. Anything can set it off and it’s evil.

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 23/06/2020 22:37

My heart burn was horrific in my first pregnancy. I also got this awful under rib pain.
My gp gave me omperazole (20mg) at the first sign in this pregnancy and I havent had a single episode. It's like a mirracle.

Winterbobble · 23/06/2020 22:40

Hi - I have also been struggling massively with indigestion/heartburn/acid reflux. But the reason I called dr was violent coughing fits randomly throughout day - the GP thought it could be indigestion related so prescribed Omeprazole.

It has helped with the coughing and indigestion symptoms but then my anxiety has increased about

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 23/06/2020 22:41

Try asking the doctor for reflux tablets. That's what my friend told me to do because that's what she was prescribed. I've muddled through pregnancy twice having no clue there was tablets for nausea and heartburn that doctors could prescribe, and mine is horrendous and lasts from 6 weeks to the 42 weeks my kids decided to stay in there till. I'm now pregnant with the third and just got the anti nausea tablets yesterday. Can't say they make a massive difference, but I think they might be helping a little bit. Will see tomorrow.

Winterbobble · 23/06/2020 22:42

Possible effects on baby (sorry posted too soon!) anyway just wanted to hear others experience.

Chl00 · 23/06/2020 23:35

I have really bad heartburn most of the day everyday and don’t like the idea of taking anti-heartburn tabs but milk makes me sick during my pregnancy 😔 I’m trying to reduce my intake of acidic foods and drinks but can be difficult.. think I’m just gunna have to suffer it 😩

Miss2820 · 24/06/2020 08:14

OMG I am in the same boat I’m 9 weeks and the heartburn is very bad especially at night and evening day time I’m not to bad.. I eat at a good time so when I’m ready for bed I’ve had a bit of a gap from my last meal.. this is my 2nd pregnancy first one I didn’t get much heartburn I had more sickness and nausea this time round I’ve had bad heartburn
