7 week scan

I have a private scan on Friday when I’ll be 7+1 and was wondering if heartbeat and everything can be found just through normal ultrasound or is it likely it’ll be an internal scan?

My first scan i was 7+5 from LMP but baby only measured 6+1. That one started as abdominal but then they did transvaginal to get a clearer look and check measurements.

2 weeks later (9+5 from LMP but baby actually measuring 8+2) it was just an abdominal.

I had 2 on the NHS at 6 and 8 weeks and they were both internal, I’d assume it’d be internal. I also ended up having an internal at 12 weeks too when they couldn’t see/measure something properly. It’s no big deal to be honest, I never felt embarrassed and didn’t bother even when I wasn’t anticipating it at 12 weeks.

I had internal one at 8 weeks it’s not that bad just uncomfortable doesn’t hurt lasted literally few minutes.. it’s the best way to check everything I had it done private

I had to have internal yesterday at 10 weeks.
Doesn't hurt though.

GirlCalledJames · 21/06/2020 06:58

All the ones I had before 12 weeks were internal.

Maidmummy · 21/06/2020 06:59

I had abdominal at 7+5 and could see baby and heartbeat very clearly, I'll attach my pic so you can get an idea of a 7th week foetus x

7 week scan

From 7 weeks most sonographers start with an abdominal and only do an internal one if needed. You can definitely ask for an abdominal first, if you’d prefer.

LouisLitt1 · 21/06/2020 07:30

Just beware you may not be 7+1. I was four days behind at my 12 week scan. Could you go to 8 to be a little further along?

User24689 · 21/06/2020 07:34

I had both mine scanned at 6 or 7 weeks (standard at my public hospital in Australia) could easily see baby and get heartbeat through abdominal scan. I was warned beforehand that if they couldn't get heartbeat not to worry they'd have me back in a week as it can vary a bit (and dates can be out)

Scrumpyjacks · 21/06/2020 07:44

I was scanned yesterday at 7 week exactly and saw a heartbeat by an abdominal scan

Melbs6 · 21/06/2020 08:08

I had an abdominal scan at 7+2 and found the heartbeat. It was amazing, so worth the money

I think The NHS and Window to the Womb will do an internal before 10 weeks, but I went with Ultrasound Direct who did an abdominal. I guess you could ask for an abdominal first and if they can’t find the baby you can try an internal
