Helloo,

Has anyone else experienced or experiencing constant weight loss through-our their pregnancy?

I’m 18 weeks and I had severe sickness (Hyperemesis) until week 17, but I’m still losing weight (almost a stone and half now in total). I have no desire to eat at all but I’m not being sick anymore.
Anyone experienced this? :(

Thank you x

Well of course you’re going to lose weight not eating. Have you spoken to your midwife about ways to get calories in? At my most nauseous I found milkshake and smoothies easier to tolerate

I’m aware of that. What I mean is that I am eating again, but not enough. I have no desire to eat food (any type of food), no cravings and when I do manage to eat anything I feel extremely nauseated and anxious after the first bite because I don’t really want to be eating anything. I don’t get hungry at all. I’m basically forcing myself to eat food right now, which in a day isn’t considered much calorie-wise. I’ve spoken to my Midwife and her suggestion is to keep trying different anti-sick tablets (none help) or to drink high calorie drinks, not to exercise anymore, even though I’m not vomiting anymore and I’ve tried that. I feel full up with one gulp as they’re such a thick consistency and then I feel grossly nauseated for hours.

I’m wondering if anyone else struggled to like/consume food or lost a lot of weight throughout their pregnancy, any possible reasons ect?

I lost 2.5 stone with my first due to having HG. Like you I never wanted food. Just try to eat high calorie, high fat foods. Try not to worry about it too much. If you look on the HG posts I'm sure you will see it is quite common. Have you tried different combinations of antiemetics? Sometimes several are needed

Look at Pregnancy Sickness Support and maybe give them a call and see if they have any tips x

Thank you for replying :)

They diagnosed me with the HG around week 8, but I’ve not vomited for the past 5 days now, seems to be getting better on that part but I just have zero desire for food and have to force myself to go eat something. I only feel nauseous if I try to eat. My partner did point out when I first got pregnant that I was going to end up getting fat if I keep the baby, which did incite a lot of fear into me from his words. I guess I can’t work out if it’s a psychological related thing now or if there’s psychically just something wrong with me to not be eating food still.

I’m thinking to change hospitals as my antenatal midwife cancelled my last two telephone appointments and it’s impossible to get through to them for advice since Covid-19 started x

Struggling with eating only 5 days post vomiting is common with HG. Don't forget your stomach will have shrunk considerably by now. Feel free to message me privately, there might be some HG friendly practitioners in your area x
