I know i'm probably overreacting but I can't help it.

Since last night I've been getting really bad cramps in my stomach. I rang the hospital who said not to worry as its normal unless it gets worse or is still going tomorrow then to go in for a checkup.

its not necassarily worse.... just feels like it, maybe because i'm so tired (not slept in over 24 hours)

I really don't know what to do..... Don't want to ring the hosp again as its probably over the top. Plus DP's got the car and i'd have to get him out of work to take me or go in ambulance which is really over the top.

Hmm, well obviously the midwives know best but I wouldn't have thought that really bad stomach cramps for over 24 hours was normal... didn't they say why it was happening/why it was normal? I didn't get cramps like that at that stage.

Jenswish · 24/09/2007 22:20

No, just that its probably growing pains. But it doesn't feel like growing pains and i'm sure growing pains wouldn't keep me up at night.

They wear off now and then so I don't think its labour or anything. Baby is kicking the crap out of me.... moving more than normal. So I spose that makes it ok.

Just want to sleep, i'm meant to be in work tomorrow (was meant to be in today and i hate sick days) - Stupid i know.

Hmm, on second thoughts, what kind of cramps are they? Is it a constant ache, low down? or does it come and go in waves? if it's in waves it could just be braxton hicks...for many people they don't hurt but for some people they do. If it isn't coming in waves it could just be round ligament pain, but to be honest that generally comes earlier in pregnancy.

Causes of Cramping During Your Second & Third Trimester

  1. Round ligament pain - The infamous round ligament pain strikes pregnant women often in their second and third trimester. As in early pregnancy the uterus continues to stretch and grow. As the uterus expands the ligaments stretch to support it. Mild cramping may occur.

  2. Preterm labor - Cramping, mild or severe, diarrhea, and back pain can all be indicators of preterm labor.

  3. Braxton Hicks contractions - In the second and third trimester pregnant women will often have Braxton Hicks contractions. Braxton Hicks contractions are the irregular intermittent contractions that occur during pregnancy.

  4. Labor - During early labor cramping and back pain are common symptoms.

Because normal cramping can be hard to differentiate from a sign of danger, we recommend discussing any cramping with your doctor.

I had a little diarhea before but like I said I don't think its labour because its not regular at all, just painful.

Maybe its braxton hicks but I thought that came later.

Well, I would do what you have to to get some sleep tonight. You can take paracetamol but not ibruprofen, get yourself a hot water bottle and some warm milk, do everything you can to get comfy, and rope in the other half to rub your lower back. If it's still as bad in the morning, forget work and go to the hospital. If you're worried in the night though, call the midwives, that's what they're there for. They could always send some form of transport without flashing lights!

Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks......

Got some hot choc in the kitchen. Will get some of that a bath and bed. Other half in work so will have to make do for now.

Aaw, that's the trouble with pregnancy when the baby starts really growing, it shove everything about inside and every little ache and pain feels weird. It only gets worse I'm afraid! The last few week are pretty uncomfortable and not much fun, but it's all forgotten a soon a they're here! Glad you're ok anyway, take it easy.
