I'm 39+6, I had a sweep two days ago (was 1cm but thick cervix at the time of the sweep). Since then I've had discomfort but not definitive contractions.

I've now got really uncomfortable back ache and a 'pressing down' sensation when I stand up. This could be the start, of it could just be aches and I've got another fortnight to wait.

What would you do....

  • get upright and active to try and get things going?
  • have a lie down and rest while I've got chance?

I would rest now and get active once you are contracting regularly. It will start when your body is ready. I was far too active in early labour when I should have been resting. I didn't sleep for 2 nights after that so really should have used that time better!

I went for a long walk to kickstart things when I was in a similar situation.

Thanks both. In the end I tried sleeping but couldn't. I've had a bit of a walk, bounced on my ball, eaten some chilli, and drunk some pineapple juice. Still a big fat nothing. I'm feeling very impatient.
