Poop problems

Embarrassment out the window.

Today for the first time in my pregnancy (13weeks) I've struggled to poop.

I did not know this was a thing!

It's like it's there but doesn't want to go. (Sorry if I've put anyone off their food).
Does anyone have any suggestions to make it easy so I'm no spending my life on the loo and straining myself. I eat a high in fibre cereal everyday already. I've read it can lead to piles which I really don't want 🙈

Thanks

Bunged up x

The best advice I was given by a friend when I was pregnant was “don’t let yourself get constipated”.
I used these.

Thank you! That's going on the shopping list x

And I case you are concerned it is fine to use during pregnancy.

Fybogel Hi-Fibre Orange drink can be used wherever increased fibre is needed in your diet to help relieve constipation - this includes constipation during pregnancy. It can also be used to help maintain a normal bowel function among those suffering from haemorrhoids (piles).

What usually works for me is having a large glass of fruit juice and then going for a walk.

If you're taking a supplement containing iron then that can cause constipation - halving my dose of iron for a couple of days got me going again when I was desperate in my last pregnancy.

I swear by laxido/movicol.

I drink two sachets a day and it keeps everything moving.

Lactulose and when it gets really bad glycerin suppositories

Bobbiepin · 20/06/2020 10:16

And for the last 6 weeks of your pregnancy, eat 6 dried apricots EVERY day. Softens things up so your first post natal poop isn't awful!

Constipation is so bad in pregnancy! I suffered really badly with it last pregnancy and I'm suffering again. I use fybogel and prune juice. Treat it now! Otherwise you'll regret the piles later

firstimemamma · 20/06/2020 10:23

I had this too op! Eat prunes and / or dates and keep hydrated.

FirstTimeMumDec2020 · 20/06/2020 10:31

Thank you for all your suggestions! I really appreciate it 😊

It’s a horrible side effect, but pretty common. Lactulose works for me, but I have found my digestion is generally more sluggish so I am going less frequently than before.

NWnature · 20/06/2020 12:03

I drink the fybogel sachets from amazon - one every other day or so at the moment but I may increase if things slow up. I bought some prune juice but it was so vile I couldn’t stomach it. I drink loads of water and later on am definitely going to be eating lots of dates, apricots etc!

Bobbiepin · 20/06/2020 12:14

Ooh actually the pouches of mashed prunes for babies (Ella' kitchen and the like) work well too! Actually taste quite nice.

Pregnancy constipation is the worst! You have my sympathies!

During my first pregnancy I was 90 minutes late for work one morning because I was stuck at home 'trying' on the loo! Blush

Obviously didn't give that as the reason for being late! Smile

Aww no! I had my husband shouting 'you still in there?' 😂

Not what I expected to go through this morning haha x

Oh god I feel your pain - I’m only 5 weeks and the last 3 days have been a struggle! I had a little coffee this morning as a treat and it sorted me out - but yesterday and the day before I just couldn’t go / my stomach felt rock hard I was so bloated 😭

rachb2019 · 20/06/2020 14:01

@FirstTimeMumDec2020 If my husband disturbed me whilst I was constipated on the toilet that would be grounds for divorce lol! I need complete privacy.

I can only 'go' at home (never on a work toilet) which is why I couldn't leave the house until I had been! Blush
