Hi Everyone,

I just received my NIPT Test results and midwife said everything is fine. I wanted to know what things they mention in the test results like some ratio or possibilities? As the NIPT test is not 100% accurate.

Please advise.

Hi,

Are you referring to the Nuchal Translucency test? x

Elouera · 19/06/2020 15:00

From memory mine was split out- Downs x%, T13 X%, T18 X% etc and also whether the sex was XX or XY.

I'll see if I can find the paperwork. Unfortunately our baby had T13.

I am referring to noninvasive prenatal testing to detect genetics abnormalities

I had that at the twenty week scan (if it’s the same thing) where the baby’s organs and growth etc was checked and then given a blood test for Down’s syndrome. I was told low risk, not as many midwife appointments as normal at the moment though due to the current situation x

@Elouera Thanks very sweet of you . But the test is not 100% accurate so I really hope further investigation was done.

Plus I read many people have negative results but the baby turned out to be completely healthy.

@Fingerscrossed11 Thank you. The corona crisis had made appointments so difficult.Hope the situation is back to normal in coming months.

Update: I checked the paperwork. My NIPT results said - 2 copies each of chromosome 18 and 21. Chromosone 13- aneuploidy A. Results consistent with trisomy 13. It also said whether X and or Y chromosones were seen, and that further testing is recommended.

We went back to the clinic for a more detailed scan, which showed an NT of 6.5mm and very obvious abnormalities- even visible on the scan at 11 weeks! Sorry of TMI, but it had a cleft face (not just a cleft lip), large hernia around the umbilical cord, shadowing in the brain, single cord vein and more. We were offered either CVS or amnio, but after discussion with the consultant, we went straight to TFMR 2 days later. The autopsy also showed T13.

Have you had some concerning results OP? If you don't wish to discuss them here, feel free to private message me, or ARC can be very helpful in what choices you have.

@Mams8989 what do your results say? I’m happy to share mine but they won’t have a bearing on yours, of course.

We’d asked not to know the sex so that was blank, and then it gave risks (ours came back as 1:1,000,000 for each of the trisomys). The test is over 99% accurate for Down’s but less accurate for Edward’s and Patau’s. I understand a false positive is much more likely than a false negative though.

Mams8989 · 19/06/2020 17:27

@Elouera Thank you so much for sharing the results.I am really sorry for you and my best love and wishes with you always. I really admire you for being so strong.

They just sent the reports and said that none of the syndrome is detected as I said earlier midwife said reports are normal.

Though they did not mention any ratio or sex of the baby. I am going call my midwife on Monday to ask for more details.

Ask for them to send the full report to you.

Those are your test results, they belong to you. They cannot decline to send them (not saying they would, but they really should be sending them without being asked).

Mams8989 · 19/06/2020 17:30

@WhatWouldPennyDo My reports mention negative for all the syndrome. They didn't mention any details in the report. But I am still concerned for the numbers so will ask for detailed test results.

@catsarebetterthandogs9 Yes, definitely I will.

Depending on how many weeks you are, I think the NHS won't tell you the sex from this test.
