Hi, looking for others with experience of this during pregnancy and what your experience was please? I've been in hostels with a bleed today that turned out to be ectropion. I may bleed again and I'm wondering how likely that could be and also whether it goes away after pregnancy?

Hi! I haven't had one during pregnancy but had one a few years ago that was operated on. Was hormone related apparently as had been on the pill for a number of years. Had experienced quite a lot of bleeding which was down to it, was operated on as a day patient, out that afternoon and have had no problems since. If it does require surgery it was done under a general (guessing will have to wait until after baby is here) but was minor and experienced no pain or discomfort afterwards. Am now heavily pregnant and it hasn't returned/ bled at all since x

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, that's really comforting to know and I'm glad you're all okay now x

I'm the same as PP but without the operation, mine was hormonal related too from being on the pill which I came off to TTC, I had a few small bleeds in my earlier pregnancy (after sex and bowel movements) but haven't had any since.

Hi! I don't know if my experience helps or not but I had ectropion spotting after sex for a few years, which went away almost immediately after stopping the pill. The midwife warned me that it is more likely to re-emerge during pregnancy (can't remember why!) which it hasn't so far, so fingers crossed for you too.

But she did say - any bleeding, even if it is most likely to be ectropion, should always be checked out to err on the side of caution. x

Yes I have this. Currently almost 38 weeks pregnant.

Had a big bleed at 13 weeks, midwife wanted to check my cervix was closed and saw then that I had it.

Said it's very normal and often comes on with pregnancy, due to hormones.

Haven't had a problem since 🤞

I had this at 10 weeks in my last pregnancy. Was suffering from HG so hadnt had sex since I found out. We had sex in the morning and that night I woke up bleeding. Loads, I was soaking through pads. Went to hospital and was initially told a miscarriage.

Got a 2nd opinion and was told actually just a threatened one. 2 days later I had another heavy bleed. No sex in between. Went to a different hospital and they said ectropian. Needless to say we didnt have sex for the rest of the pregnancy!

Baby was fine.

I have this too, as others have said I’ve bled after sex and I ended up going in to have bleeds checked a couple of times in my first pregnancy and almost once in this pregnancy (but it was a Friday and EPU couldn’t fit me in, and my 12 wk scan was the Monday anyway) but always been OK. Kicking myself for not seeing the dr about it between pregnancies but hey ho.

Had this too, wasn’t pregnant though. Dr put it down to my age (early 20s). Had it treated with silver nitrate and it hasn’t returned.

It may clear up on it’s own, but honestly the treatment I had wasn’t painful nor were there much side effects. If it’s safe for pregnant women, I’d recommend it.

My GP sent an urgent referral to Gynae, within those two weeks it apparently shrunk a bit (although I had the same symptoms)

To clarify I didn’t have an operation. Basically it was just a standard speculum exam but they use a swab to apply the silver nitrate and then you’re good to go!
