Hi ladies. To all you mummies I am looking for a baby carrier for when baby gets here.
I don't want a swaddle wrap as they are a bit faffy for my liking.
I need one as it will be a lot easier for when me and DH take the dog for a walk (rural(ish) area, would be a nightmare with a pram!)
Needs to be suitable from newborn and something either of us can put on, put baby in and go, with as little faff as possible.
Any recommendations that aren't going to break the bank will be much appreciated 👍🏻

I love connecta, now called integra. Really simple to use and very comfortable for long walks. I got mine second hand off Facebook (think the page was ‘connecta baby carrier b/s/t’, there’s an integra one too). They are well made and hold their value so easy to sell on.

There is newborn insert for ergobaby, you can then continue using ergobaby without the insert when the baby is older

Thank you. I'll have a look. As we will be using it right from day one, I don't want one of the carriers where baby's legs are sticking out, I want him bundled up safely, especially as it will be end of September by the time he gets here.

There might be a sling library in your area, wraps like Close Caboo are less fuffy as they are already done on the back and have rings to adjust the tightness on the go. Mine is due in October and I'm getting a Close Caboo

Ergobaby Omni 360

Thanks ladies but are there any that don't have baby's feet popping out? Or at least the option to have them bundled up? It's going to be getting colder by time baby gets here and I don't want his little feet getting cold

I’m another vote for ergo baby 360. I know you want baby’s feet in but I think (not an expert) the best shape for their hips is to have them in the “frog leg” position, like an M, so I’m not sure if you could do that and have them bundled in.

I’m still using my ergo baby now, and baby is 11 months - still super comfy

I’m due October. I’ve looked at the Ergo baby 360, and you can buy a winter cover for it, so the baby will have protection. It’s made from fleecy material for warmth, and waterproof. Can be used from birth. Atleast then you have the option to remove this in summer / warmer days.

I've looked at the Ergo baby but it's a bit out of my price range 😭

@lockdownpregnancy - have you had a look on eBay? We got a new ergobaby omni 360 off eBay for less than half the RRP. Lots of second hand ones on there going for even less that are still in v. good condition.

My sister is lending me her ergo baby and winter cover (October baby due). I’ve bought a new newborn insert. Planning on using that.

They are quite expensive new but there seem to be quite a few in decent condition on eBay and other selling sites. Most can be bunged in the wash, too.

I second those already mentioned.
We had a mamas and papas flex for dd it's 2 loops then one short tie band for the middle, no fath basically for a soft wrap and felt well protected and comfortable

Then used a front carrier.

Sling/carrier libraries are helpful too. You may change what your idea is based on trying some snd feeling comfortable.

Just came on to say that they are designed so baby has legs like a frog, it's a great position for them and it can help things like small hip problems.
My dd had hip issues as a baby, is hypermobile and so very bendy but finds it hard to use both sides of her body as toddler amongst things like stiffness.
When we had appointments as a baby I was told that the wrap and carrier were really helping with this as her legs were in m/froggy position and to continue so my point is that it's for a good reason and I tackled this by just having a huge coat done up to the tummy area when walking so her legs were still warm enough.

We don't drive so spent a lot of time walking in parks, fields, nipping on buses etc and it was great for those. You just need to feel really comfortable and safe that baby is protected so if you don't get on with one try another :)

It's probably clear but I wore the huge coat around her, checking often her temp obviously

I see a pp has beat me to it but I bought a coat that allowed for baby carrying (you could just size up on a normal one though I guess) - pop baby in the carrier, then put on your coat and do it up and you're nice and toasty along with the baby.

The logic of putting your coat over! My god my brain is mush! Thank you ladies it didn't even cross my mind!

Second hand is possible and brings down the price. I got a baby Bjorn one carrier which can be used from new born and loved the fact it's really easy to get on without help. That is key. Some carriers are a bit faffy.

Look for a Waist strap for when they are bigger and heavier as it makes carrying much easier

We have an ergobaby Omni and it's great. We used it loads for the first year or so. Also used a stretchy wrap one, a boba I think, in the first three months. That kept her nice and toasty. Bit daunting at first, but we went to a sling library and got shown how to use it.

Be really careful about getting a new one off eBay as it is awash with fakes that won't have been through the same safety checks.

The Ergobaby omni is fantastic, but if that’s too expensive maybe look at the Ergobaby Embrace instead, it’s so comfy, like the hoody of baby carriers! It’s about £70 instead of £150 but only suitable up to about 9 months I think
