2+ sugar in urine

Has anyone else had sugar in their urine but turned out not to have gestational diabetes?

I am not in any of the high risk categories for it, and I don't eat a sugary diet at all so I'm so confused. Any other explanations for sugar in urine?

I had a blood test today and will find out within 48 hours. I'm also really tired, dizzy and short of breath can these be symptoms? I'm 34+1 😊

Did you eat anything before the urine test? I got 2+ glucose about half an hour after I had nibbled the crust of my son’s toast, at 20 weeks. At 28 weeks I did the OGTT and I got the all clear. I’m 30 weeks now and have all those symptoms too, but I’ve been told now low iron is the culprit!

@Babylifewife thank you for replying! That's mad just after a crust of toast!

I'd had weetabix but I have weetabix every morning and always have my midwife appointments early and nothings ever shown before. I had low iron too and am on iron tablets so I doubt how I've been feeling is related to that 🤷‍♀️ the hospital have now called me in for a scan tomorrow so we'll see what happens there! Haven't had many pregnancy issues apart from severe morning sickness and now all of a sudden I found out I might have gestational diabetes and the baby is still breach so having a scan for that next week to! Pregnancy 🤦‍♀️

You don't have to be overweight or have a bad diet to get gestational diabetes (or any kind of diabetes).

Glucose in the urine can be normal in pregnancy, with or without diabetes.

I had 1+ glucose one time but negative diabetes test despite a very strong family history so was pleasantly surprised!

Every time my urine was tested. I blame the fact my hospital had a Costa right next to the maternity unit, and I always craved a hot chocolate with cream 😂
It could be anything you've eaten, even the night before it can stay in your system.

Hi @blue122

I had +2 at my scan when I was 13 weeks, they sent me for a GTT test which came back fine. I then had the same at my 16 week midwife appointment and then again at my 20 week scan. They did a blood test at my 20 week one which also came back fine. They said sometimes you can just have sugary blood, also said if you've been prone to water infections (which I have) in the past, it can mean your kidneys have to work harder to get rid of the sugar so could be this. Just wondered, are you on any tablets for the sickness? I was on Cyclizine from about 9-20 weeks as I had really bad sickness, I've stopped them now and been off them for about 5 weeks so will be interesting to see if any sugar shows up at my 28 week appointment in a week. Just wondering if this could be linked?

@Leadust92 hi thank you for replying, I had my results back and they are fine! I am also prone to water infections so maybe that's why! My midwife didn't mention that to me but that would make a lot of sense!

I took tablets for sickness but that was when I was about 8-12 weeks and I'm 34+3 now so that was a long time ago! I hope your results still come back clear at your 28 week appointment 😊
