Stretch marks

Hey all,

I just wanted advice on what's best to use for stretch marks? I know there's no "cure" or "solution" for stretch marks but something to at least make them fade. I haven't seen any appear yet but thought I could start using something daily to help. I'm currently 21weeks.

TIA x

I use Palmers stretch mark cream everyday. I'm currently 25 weeks and now stretch marks yet. I know a few moms that used it and it really helped.
Bio oil is also really good for stretch marks but it's more expensive than Palmers

I’m pregnant with my first and am also worried about stretch-marks. I did a lot of research on how to prevent them. Often the advice is to drink lots of water, eat lots of nutritious foods like fruit and vegetables and apply moisturiser daily.

The best reviewed one I could find was the brand ‘Science of Skin’. I ordered the stretch mark defence and stretch mark solution cream. You apply the defence everyday and start using the solution to treat them if they pop up. It did cost me £52, but thought I’d get myself a pregnancy treat! There are cheaper creams/moisturisers on the market too that are more affordable! Hope that’s helpful. Smile

Hi, I moisturiser like daily and then twice daily in third trimester followed by bio oil. I also moisturiser if my bump ever got itchy. I used any moisturiser (E45, aveeno, palmers etc) but do swear by bio oil - got me through 2 pregnancies with no stretch marks.

Teacaketotty · 17/06/2020 21:27

I used bio oil all through my first pregnancy despite the fact I hate the texture and didn’t have any stretch marks, had DD and about ten appeared immediately afterwards as my stomach shrunk.

Don’t think I’ll bother next time tbh, what will be will be!

100ml sweet almond oil, add 20drops of camomile, 20 drops of rose oil and 20 drops of lavender. Relaxing, smells amazing and is great for keeping things stretchy. Apply twice a day

Thank you all, I will definitely look into these and try them 🙂

It's definitely down to your genes. I used bio oil with all of my pregnancies as soon as I got a bump. I'm 35 weeks with baby number three and don't have any stretch marks. However my mum had no stretch marks either.

My friend tried every cream going and the poor woman has loads, but then so did her mum.

Don't mean to worry anybody but I had none right up until birth then they came out later Shock I think they can hide under the skin so you think you havent got any in pregnancy then boom they rise to the surface and just when you thought you were safe! Also you can get them low down caused by pushing the baby out and on your breasts when your milk comes in .. anyway I'll get my coat

LuckyC27 · 18/06/2020 07:21

I've used bio oil and palmers and switched between the two since 16 weeks - they have definitely helped keep me moisturized and stopped itching but unfortunately I have stretch mark prone skin. Started getting them on my hips at 21 weeks now 32 weeks and have some appearing at the bottom of my stomach. I think some people get them regardless due to genetics but its still worth using the products and all my stretch marks from puberty are not visible so I know they will fade anyway!

Ginfilledcats · 18/06/2020 07:24

Hey good luck but sadly it's genetic. I ate really healthily through my pregnancy, tonnes of water daily - more than recommended and used bio oil twice a day.

I have horrendous stretch marks

I am day 8 post partum and the purple ness is fading but I think they're with me for life x

DemolitionBarbie · 18/06/2020 07:38

Time, a decent diet and getting out enough to keep things in proportion!

wannabebump · 18/06/2020 09:03

I'm 19 weeks and using palmers stretch mark moisturiser - mainly for damage limitation lol. The stretch marks are genetics so tough cheese really but it can soften the appearance so that's what I'm going for. And it's nice to bond with bump 😊 x

Nelbert19 · 18/06/2020 09:12

Yep I’m afraid it’s your genes that have the biggest say in the development of stretch marks, but hydration helps the healing.

Drink plenty and use a very hydrating moisturiser (I’m using bio oil and a body butter). No stretch marks yet at 34 week, but my mum didn’t have any either. I’m expecting some to appear though because I’ve got a lot on my hips from teenage growth.

I’ve seen them referred to as tiger stripes because they show your body has been through battle! That’s what I’ll be calling them! 🐯

tmh88 · 18/06/2020 09:14

I used palmers stretch mark cream every day through pregnancy, got to around 37 weeks and literally woke up practically covered! I really wouldn’t hold out hope for creams etc to work! They do fade after anyway

Pinkblueberry · 18/06/2020 09:16

I think it must be mostly genetic, I didn’t get any but my mum never had any either. My bump wasn’t that big either. I still used bio-oil every day though and moisturised with body butter - it may have helped.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/06/2020 09:19

I used bio oil all through my first pregnancy despite the fact I hate the texture and didn’t have any stretch marks, had DD and about ten appeared immediately afterwards as my stomach shrunk.

This happened to me! I was so happy at having none at all and my stomach after the baby was born is lovely and mark free. Then they arrived about a day after that. Devo.
