Hello,
Booked in for a c section next week. Bit nervous about the whole thing, had emcs last time. Added nerves on top with the Covid situation. Just hoping to hear some reassuring experiences of others who have also had a section recently.
Thanks

I had an elective c section a couple of weeks ago. Obviously it may vary from hospital to hospital but this was my experience.

DH was allowed to wait with me from 7am when I had to go in. He had to wear a mask from when we went into theatre, was allowed to take his phone in for photos. DS was born just after 12 and I was in theatre for about an hour after that. DH was allowed to stay for the time I was in theatre until when I left recovery just before 4pm. He was initially told to wear his mask in recovery but we asked if he could take it off for some photos and he was never made to put it back on. One of the midwives brought my bag round so he could help dress DS before he left. The staff were clearly taking things slowly to maximise the time DH could stay. Once I went back to the ward he had to leave but this wasn't much before when he would have had to leave to collect DD from nursery anyway.

There was plenty of help available from the midwives on the ward overnight if I wanted it, including with nappy changes.

I just stayed for one night and left mid afternoon the next day. DH and DD came to collect me from the maternity reception. One of the members of staff helped take my bags round and I pushed DS in the crib.

Happy to answer any questions.

Should add, I was happy with the experience overall but as DH wouldn't have stayed overnight anyway because of DD the covid rules didn't make a huge amount of difference to us.
