Lightening a day before due date??

My due date is tomorrow, I have been feeling my baby boy drop over these past few weeks. My last midwifes appointment was about a week ago, the midwife said that he had dropped but wasnt quite in a 'fixed' position yet. Ive been waddling for the past three weeks or so as he has been getting lower in my pelvis with the pressure getting more intense every day and frequent need to urinate etc. Last night I had a dull aching pain in my back and lower pelvis consistently for about three/four hours, I thought it could have been labour starting however no such luck yet. I woke up this morning to see that my belly had consistently dropped to below my waist - I have lost half my belly it seems! My partner has said he can see the outline of my waist again and he has dropped overnight and is no longer kicking me in the ribs but around my abdomen area. Is it normal for this to happen this late on in a first pregnancy?? I don't really want to be waiting an extra two weeks past my due date for baby to come along, Im way too excited now!

My bump definitely looked different the day I went into labour. We commented on it that morning and took a photo as it looked like baby had moved and his head was at an odd angle. I don't know if it dropped as such though, it just looked different. I was only 36 weeks so we didn't think "this is it" because it was nowhere near my due date, but by the time we went to bed the same evening I was (in hindsight) in early labour and baby was here early the following morning.
