Any over weight pregnant ladies here or have been over weight during pregnancy ?
I'm 9 weeks and I'm just really worried as pregnancy is harder for larger women So I've heard. I wanted to loose it all before I got pregnant but it just sort of happened Wanted to see if anyone else is going through this or has ? X

I found out today that I'm pregnant. Which is incredible. I'm overweight, I suffer with endometriosis and PCOS which can cause weight gain as well as make it very difficult to lose. I'm not massively overweight (a size 18 and I'm 5'11") and I don't feel it severely negatively impacts me in terms of my ability to do things, my general health etc. I have lost some weight and I, too, had plans to lose more before becoming pregnant but I'm over the moon to be pregnant now. I do have my concerns and I'm terrified of something happening but I think the most important thing is remaining healthy and active throughout the pregnancy, so keeping up with exercise and healthy eating as much as possible etc. I hope everything goes well for you and congratulations! Thanks

I think it depends on whether you're in the 'overweight' category (BMI between 25 & 30), or the 'obese' category (BMI over 30).

I had a BMI of 29 at the start of my pregnancy (size 14) so near the higher end of overweight, and my pregnancy hasnt been treated any differently. However I think if it's over 30 you have to have a higher dose of folic acid and in some areas you'd be consultant led.

I'm in the overweight category and I havent found pregnancy particularly difficult.

Hi :)

I’m currently 23 weeks pregnant and BMI is 43.

Touch wood so far Iv had absolutely no problems and I actually feel better than I ever have! I think eating healthier is so much easier to do because you know you’re doing it for your baby.

Iv actually lost about a stone since falling pregnant and Iv had no sickness and haven’t been doing much exercise apart from taking the dog a walk every day.

Honestly don’t let it worry you. The risks are all the same for ladies with a smaller BMI our risks are just increased slightly.

My midwife is amazing and isn’t judgemental in anyway. Remember they have seen it all.

Enjoy being pregnant and don’t let it worry you to much :) xx

Hi :) @Ek3009

How are you managing the weight ? As in have you gained anymore ? I'm finding it hard to eat healthy or even to exercise I just have the metallic taste in my mouth all the time 🤢 so can't eat properly and I'm always hungry. How are you ?

Hi I was a BMI of 30.5 when I fell pregnant.
I'm now 34 weeks. I have had a straightforward, normal pregnancy so far!
The fact is, you cant diet whilst pregnant so dont best yourself up about being a higher bmi whilst falling pregnant, it's done now!! What you can do though is eat healthily (try fruit instead of chocolate, all I've craved is sugar) , keep moving (yoga from YouTube in the mornings and 30 min walk every day) and drink lots of water!!
I have pushed to be midwife led instead of consultant and they have said that is fine now.
Good luck, dont worry about anything just keep healthy and enjoy pregnancy X

Hi @Newbee123 :)

Iv lost just under a stone from my booking appointment. The majority of that was in the first 15 weeks and Iv kind of remained the same for the last 8.

I went through a phase where I was so bloated I literally was eating 2 bites of dinner and having to stop but the last few weeks all I have wanted to do is eat and never feel satisfied haha. But it’s just all about making good choices, il pick up a banana instead of a bag of crisps as I know it’s more filling and nutritious etc.

You will feel different in pregnancy every few weeks and just do what your body is telling you at the time. If you’re not feeling that great at the minute eat what you can stomach and just make sure you are taking multi vitamins. You will find in a few weeks things will change again and you might be in the mood for healthier food etc.

I make a lot of slimming world recipes as well so you can still eat semi healthy and not have to live off salad and fruit and you can have some tasty meals.

Everything will be fine just relax and enjoy :) x

8th of August so yep not long to go! Yes my first baby, I've felt good throughout just starting to feel tired and bump is feeling huge!

If you are tired then sleep when you can, I've been lucky in the way I havent been able to work due to lockdown and wont go back till after baby now, so I've just slept when I wanted!

Well either way if you have a boy or girl it sounds like one side will be delighted Grin enjoy the rest of your pregnancy Flowers X

My DD is now 6, but i was overweight when i was pregnant with her, and over 35! They kept a close eye on me, regular scans, appointments at the Metabolic Clinic, regular bloods etc. I had a healthy pregnancy, apart from some sciatic pain, and my blood pressure went up at my last midwife appointment on my due date. It ended up in 2 failed inductions and a c section. Everybody is different, and yes being overweight means you are more high risk, there is no reason your pregnancy can't be healthy! Amd Congratulations! Flowers

NicJayne1 · 17/06/2020 20:51

Hi,

I wondered if I can join in? I'm 7 weeks pregnant and had a scan today due to bleeding...all was ok Smile.

My BMI is 40 and I'm over 35. I really need to gain as little weight and start exercising....any tips? X

SaraDowns123 · 17/06/2020 21:35

This is a really interesting thread!

My BMI is 29, I exercise regularly and eat healthier.

In my early 20's I lost a lot of weight, over exercised, stopped having periods and was constantly light headed because I was underweight.

I've finally gotten to a place where I'm really comfortable with my body and was embracing body positivity. However, I'm newly pregnant and am worried that I'll have a negative pregnancy experience.

I've already started to massively worry about my weight and try to reduce calories but there's so many mixed messages about how to lose weight healthily when pregnant! So kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place!

What have your experiences been like so far with interactions with midwives?
