Anti-Sickness Medication

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had experience taking medication for pregnancy sickness and could help? For the first 11 weeks of pregnancy I had extreme nausea that was so strong I had to lie down and try not to move for much of the time.

I eventually had a phone appointment with the GP who prescribed me Domperidone (Motilum). They worked perfectly and within 2 days I was back to my normal self.

Yesterday I rang back to ask for a repeat prescription and spoke to a different Dr. She said she is changing my prescription to Cyclizine, because 'midwives don't like Domperidone'.

I am worried about changing to Cyclizine as I read it works in a completely different way and can cause drowsiness. I'm concerned that it won't be as effective as Domperidone, and I am due to return to work soon where I need to be alert! Also, how long should I wait between the last dose of D and the first does of C?

Does anyone else have experience with these medications and can advise? Thank you :)

Cyclizine is the only anti emetic I tried and I found it helpful and not sedating at all.

It is worth a try, if it doesn't help go back to your gp, there are a few anti emetics that can be taken. I'm not sure about how long you need to wait. It might be a question for your gp or pharmacist - they usually tell you if you need a gap but it would be worth checking either way.

I'm on cyclizine. It takes the edge off, but it's not always 100% effective. I take half a tablet at a time, I found that if I had a whole tablet I got really drowsy. Maybe try that if you find you get drowsy, but not everyone does. Of course, it means the dose lasts less long.

OP, I am currently pregnant and have hyperemesis. Cyclizine works well for some people but did nothing for me. If you try it and it doesn’t help, do go back and ask for something else. I take ondansetron now and it’s the only one that has (somewhat) helped me

Thank you so much for all the advice everyone. I'll give Cyclizine a go and if it doesn't work for me, I can always ring up the GP again. Fingers crossed .

Cyclizine didnt work very well for me, made me really tired. Im on Xonvea which I find better.
