Heart outflow tracts not seen on ultrasound

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has had the same.

I had my 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago and due to the way baby was lying they couldn’t get a clear picture of the spine or the heart outflow tracts from the heart ventricles.

I went back today for a rescan and the spine was checked and all was ok but due to me having a higher BMI and the way baby was lying they still couldn’t confirm if all was ok with the outflow tracts as they couldn’t get a clear picture.

Everything else was seen and is absolutely perfect and the sonographer didn’t seem too concerned and just said she wouldn’t bring me back for a rescan.

Has anyone else had this? I just feel like this will be hanging over me now until she arrives and I know for sure everything is ok with her heart.

Thanks

Hey - it’s pretty common to have trouble with all the heart images, they’re tricky and baby’s position definitely has an effect. Your BMI can make it harder too. Perhaps chat to your midwife? sometimes the same structures can be assessed in a few different views so it may be that they’re happy with what they’ve seen anyway, what does the report say?
Where I am (not NHS) you would get at least one further attempt in this situation, usually by a more specialized sonographer - but I’m not sure what the policy is there!

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have the midwife on Friday so I will definitely mention it to her. The report doesn’t really say much, it just has everything else that has been checked and normal written next to it and then next to heart outflow tracts it says not seen.

I’m in Scotland and with NHS. Everything else was fine, the chambers and the ventricles etc so I’m sure all will be ok but would have just been good to get that bit of confirmation.
