Can being sick affect gestational diabetes test? If you’re sick during the test will it make you fail the test?

You'll need to repeat it if you're sick during it

JessH97 · 15/06/2020 15:30

Yeah I know I just wondered why that was? Can it make the test appear Inconclusive or give a false pass

If you’re sick during it then you won’t have the glucose in your system that they then check your blood against. Don’t think they’d even take the second blood sample if you were sick tbh

I had 5 GTTs in my first pregnancy cos I kept being sick after the sugary solution 🤢

Whatinthename20 · 15/06/2020 18:27

In my area they have now replaced the GTT with a blood test at 28 weeks

omg35 · 15/06/2020 18:41

@Whatinthename20 I hope they've done same in my area! It's nine years since I had DD1 and I'm already dreading having to do the GTT again this time round

Chichz · 15/06/2020 19:35

Same as @Whatinthename20 in my area too - just a blood test! I was made up, as hated the idea of downing that stuff. I probably would have puked up too! Grin

Thanks for all your replies ladies! How long did it take you all to get your results x

I’ve just had my third blood test for GD (very check up I go to I have glucose in my urine 🙈) and I’ve got the results within 48hrs. One was sent as urgent and I received it the following day.

Chichz · 16/06/2020 11:57

Remember you won't hear if it is good news too. I'm finally relaxing after nearly 2 weeks! Grin

I've heard they are pretty quick if the result is positive. Like PP said, I'd expect within 48 working hours.

Teacaketotty · 16/06/2020 11:59

I was told less than a week for the result so if you hear nothing it’s good!

I felt terrible during the test though, had to lie down on the chairs in the waiting room- luckily it was really quiet Blush

I had the GD test 2 weeks ago and it was just a blood test at 28 weeks. I didn't hear back from the hospital at all, but when I had my midwife appointment the following morning, she rang and checked for me. Apparently if there is an issue you will hear the same or following day! No news is good news in this case!
