Hi, I have my 20 week scan tomorrow and I'm very excited and very nervous! I am worried about all of the conditions they look for, some of them are terrifying! Please can people give me their experiences? I'm also worried about whether I will see a midwife afterwards because I need to get my maternity form for work before my next appointment,is it normal to see midwife at this appointment?

I was nervous at my 20 weeks scan, I was convinced something would be wrong but everything was fine. I am 34 weeks now and had a scan the other day, again everything was fine.

I don't think I saw midwife at 20 weeks scan though.

Just remember chances are your scan will be absolutely normal Smile

@Centaurpede hey I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday... and like you, feeling excited but nervous incase the find something.
Have you been feeling any movements?
I have been feeling little kicks for a few days now, sometimes a lot and sometimes just a few but there has been some every day, that's helped me feel a bit better.

Centaurpede · 14/06/2020 22:13

Thank you both for replying! Yes I think I have been feeling some little kicks and flutters for the last week, I can't be completely certain though. I look forward to them being more obvious!

Hi @Centaurpede I have my 20 week scan tomorrow also it's at 8.50 so nice and early. I'm nervous also but excited to see the big change in baby. I will be 21 weeks and 4 days there will be some difference since last scan. Think it's only natural to worry I have been nervous for every scan I have had this pregnancy. Good luck tomorrow xx

Hi OP, good luck with your scan tomorrow. I was a bag of nerves before mine too but it was absolutely fine. Obviously I was alone but it was a very chilled experience and the sonographer was lovely. The vast majority of scans are absolutely fine and uneventful so please try not to worry.

I've never seen a midwife after a scan. I was due to get my MatB1 form and whooping cough vaccination at the 25 week appointment but it was cancelled due to covid so I just got them at 28 weekx instead which was no problem at all. I may be wrong but I thought you had to be over 24 weeks to get that form?

I had mine Friday, I felt exactly the same really nervous yet excited.
My little girl (found out Friday after being convinced we were having a boy!!) had her head buried down by my bladder so they couldn't check the brain/eyes/lips so I'm back in tomorrow for a re-scan, everything else looked fine though thankfully.
I am excited to see her again and to hopefully take a pic of her head home this time.
My Sonographers was so lovely and chatty, she printed so many pictures for me to take home and share with my fiancé and family, she really made the experience as lovely as can be while alone.
The screen was tilted away from me more than the 12w scan but that may just been different Sonographers preference of how they work, but she did turn it towards me whenever I asked a question and showed me some other things she saw too.
Good luck and enjoy seeing your baby again xx

Oh and yes I saw the vet to antenatal to see a midwife afterwards and got my Mat B form. They asked about my whooping cough vaccine but I'd already had that at my GP then booked me in for 28 week bloods x

FlowerPig · 15/06/2020 00:11

No I didn't see the vet, but I did go over to antenatal afterwards to see a midwife...I blame the typo on the insomnia

Spark27 · 15/06/2020 05:32

You usually dont have a mw appt after your 20w scan. If you need your MATB1 form soon for work (for my work I had to submit it by 25w) just call the mw and explain and they'll usually issue it.
I called my mw for mine and I just had to pop in the next day to collect. They can issue it from 20w so provided you're actually over that you'll be ok.

Good luck for your scan today, enjoy seeing your baby, and dont be worried to ask lots of questions. I did first time round at it was amazing xx

@Centaurpede thank you! All good! Baby was all curled up with its feet above its head and its hands holding its feet haha feeling so relieved.
Although I have to go for an extra scan at 34 weeks because the placenta is close to the birth canal. So hopefully it moves up out of the way!
