34 week scan - baby measuring 6lb 10... anyone experienced this?

Hello all,

Baby is measuring 6lb 10 at 34 weeks. As the sonographer said.... 'a solid baby' lol! She was 4lbs at 30 weeks. I have another scan at 36 weeks to see what she is measuring then.

My heart rate is 130 resting for the past 3 weeks , so I can't imagine them letting me go to 40 weeks. What do you guys think?

Has anyone experienced similar? Do they normally bring them early?

I'm a little nervous as my heart rate increases so much when even walking to the kitchen also. So I am hoping now to have a caesarean. To be honest... whatever the safest way is for baby.

I had a scan at 33 weeks and baby was estimated to be 5lb 14. I’ve had a scan today (36 weeks) and it’s now estimated to be 6lb 13 which was the weight of my last baby at full term. They booked my c section for 39 plus 4 days but as it’s my 4th section that was always going to be the case. I think they’ll just monitor you and then decide the best birth option x

Scans cannot not predict an accurate baby weight. There are too many extraneous factors. Measurements can be an indicator but not irrefutable evidence. Babies that appear to outweigh the algorithm can be smaller and vice versa. Mine was considered average but she was a tiny baby. Dsis was predicted two large babies but they were both average weight.

I'm 32 weeks and they've said baby is 3.15... I'm not really sure how accurate these weights can actually be?!

My 36 week scan- estimated 8lb 13 at that point!! 2 weeks utter terror, born at 38 (induction) perfect 7lb 3. Interestingly the midwives never thought she felt particularly big.

Growth scans are often wrong so try not to worry. I say that as someone who's growth scans were actually pretty much spot on but I am the exception not the rule.

Take growth scans with a pinch of salt. They 'estimate' the weight of babe. And it is literally just that. They told me I was going to have a 9lber..... He was 5lb13oz. Imagine my surprise 😂.

I think you get a feel for it yourself too. DS was big and I could feel he was big.

Definitely take that with a pinch of salt. DS, measured 7.13 at 40 week scan. Actual birth weight - 9.10 (he was born at 41 weeks). The doctor who scanned me happened to be in the ward doing checks just after he was born and said “did we know he was going to be this big?” 🤔

DS was 7lb 8oz at 34 weeks, I had an elective C-Section (I had to push for this, my consultant was horrible)

I had him at 38+5 and he was 10lb 1, not an easy C-Sectionaland said consultant apologised for earlier comments she'd made and said I'd made the right decision

I had a scan at 34 weeks with my second. I can't remember the weight but the sonographer said he was off the charts and went to get a colleague for a second opinion! I was even booked in for another diabetes test despite it coming back negative at 28 weeks (it came back negative again).
He was also breech and never turned so I was booked in for a c section at 39+2. He was 9 and a half pounds at birth so not a tiddler but definitely not off the charts!

We had a scan at 34 weeks he was 6lbs 6, born at 40+4 at 9lbs 1

I was told 6lb 9oz at 34+0 a fortnight ago, back today at 36+0 so will let you know how that goes.

DD was big, scan estimated 10lb the day I was induced, they were willing to let me have a section but went ahead with the induction. Which failed so I had an emergency section anyway. She was 9lb 7oz, and the section was a brilliant experience.

DH and I were both big babies so I fully believe this one is big too. As someone else said, I feel it too.

At the 34 week appointment, the doctor booked my section for 39+3. I think they'll probably bring me back to check for gestational diabetes (they did at a late stage on DD too but I didn't have it), I'm really hoping they don't want to bring the section forward as a few days will change the year the baby starts school.

I was overdue and they predicted my DC weight in the scan at 10lb 4. The midwife had never mentioned the baby being big on checks. It was only when I was overdue and saw hospital midwife they measure the fund us at 48. Freaked out -discussed options and pushed for a c section. Glad I did as he was 11lb 4. The predictions of weight are just that so in truth your baby could be smaller or bigger. The main thing is the baby being healthy.

I can't remember the exact weight but DS was predicted to be on the 90th centile or so. He was born at 39 weeks (via ELCS) on the 9th. He has quite a big head and I think that threw their measurements off a bit.

Yes I had this.
The scan two weeks later at which baby had put on a pound, they said "no you're fine," leaving me petrified at having such a massive baby.

He was born 2 weeks late at 9lbs 9oz, which given that babies are supposed to lose weight after 40 weeks meant that the scan was pretty accurate.

He was an emergency caesarean as his head was too big and not coming down. Oh the relief when they said they were going to do one!

I had a growth scan at 41 weeks and it was bang on! I was amazed!

I think I was told growth scans are accurate to plus minus 10 percent on DD.

Obviously there will be plenty of anecdotal cases where they weren't, but over a population I think they're reasonably accurate.

Unlike fundal height which is surely a load of bollocks.

I had a scan the day before my first was born as I'm so short (4'10") and they said to expect about 6lb at most.... next day I had an 8'13 very chunky son! The next one was a teeny tiny 5lb 7 ... and they'd told me to expect another big one 🙄

I was allowed to go to 42 weeks despite having growth scans.
He was 9lbs 8 when born. Scans can be off, some women like to avoid intervention. So maybe have a think about how you feel about that. Good luck xx
