Waking up STARVING in the night!

I'm so exhausted I keep waking at 4am every morning starving hungry and can't get back to sleep. I've fought it so far as I'm eating plenty through the day and already overweight so I really could do without having an extra meal in the day but I literally feel sick with hunger. I'm just approaching 30 weeks. Is this a common thing? Am I just going to have to cave and have an early hours snack or will this pass do we think? TIA!

I had this from about 8 weeks all of the wag through my pregnancy. The amount of bananas I went through was ridiculous, as I'd then eat at least half of a cereal bar if I was still hungry. I've always had a high metabolism though but being pregnant just took it to the extreme. I didn't care though as my BMI was low to begin with and even though I put on 17kg whilst pregnant (over a third of my pre preg weight) I lost most of it within a week or two of giving birth, then the remaining 7kg I lost within a couple of weeks of finishing breast feeding without doing anything differently. The only issue is that now we have a toddler who is obsessed with bananas and eats one a day... You've just got to do what works for you and your body.
