Aspirin

Anyone else that is on aspirin during their pregnancy...silly questions but how did you go about getting more when you needed it? Haven’t been able to get hold of a midwife to find out. Did you go through your midwife or your GP?

Was handed a 2 month handwritten prescription after my 12 week scan and just told to take it to any pharmacy but I’ll be running out soon.

I just bought mine in the local supermarket. It’s very cheap to buy over the counter (or supermarket aisle).

WK29 · 09/06/2020 14:04

@SunbathingDragon I honestly have no idea why that solution didn’t come to me myself 🤣🤣 I’m having one of those days 😅 I’ll grab some from the pharmacy at the end of the week. Thank you!

No worries. Hope the aspirin helps and your pregnancy goes well.

BeMorePacific · 09/06/2020 14:57

Just check you have the correct dosage. Or cut the pills accordingly x

2020wish · 09/06/2020 15:01

What dosage are you on

fool11 · 09/06/2020 15:16

got my from boots..taking 75mg / day

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 09/06/2020 15:22

Yep i just buy mine. Im on 150mg so I take 2x75mg.
No prescription was offered to me, i assume due to the cost to the NHS and the minimal amount they cost to buy OTC

WK29 · 09/06/2020 15:38

I’m on 150mg a day. I don’t even know why it didn’t occur to me just to buy them 🙈😂 I don’t usually take anything on prescription that I can buy OTC because I hate to use the NHS like that. I’ll pick then up when I’m next shopping.

Out of interest, when has everyone been advised to stop their aspirin? I was handed a prescription and told 150mg a day until birth (FTM with BMI of 35.2). Obviously they’re the professionals but my head is telling me it should be stopped before birth incase of bleeding? 🤔

Just buy them over the counter. I take two 75mg soluble aspirin a day.

Been on them since 14 weeks as I’m fat and 40.

Billyjoearmstrong · 09/06/2020 15:42

Oh and no one told me when to stop. When I ask they shrug their shoulders (seriously, consultant as well as midwife). It’s worrying to me as a HCP myself I worry about bleeding.

I’m having a planned section at 38 weeks so I’ll stop at 36. Had a lot of blood loss in two previous sections so it does worry me.

watersintheclouds · 09/06/2020 15:49

I’ve never been offered a prescription for mine. I’ve found 75mg aspirin in Boots and Waitrose but not other supermarkets.

2020wish · 09/06/2020 17:41

Has anyone taken them from
After ovulation to try and prevent another early loss?

thosethreewords · 09/06/2020 21:43

I had to get mine on prescription when I started to show as the chemist wouldn't sell them to me but if you have someone else to go for you or you go to the supermarket I'm sure you won't have any issues.
I was advised to stop taking mine at 36 weeks which is what I did

27andcounting · 10/06/2020 01:40

I get mine on prescription but mainly because I have other items on the prescriptions and whenever I pick up my repeats from the doctors they include in the aspirin for me. I was told to take them until week 38... also for having a high BMI at booking. However they only told me this on my 15 week appointment (with the midwife) so may update you on your next appointment when they need you to take it till.

I wish I could buy them as they prescribe the dispensable ones 🤢 but don't like wasting them so take them anyways.

Dexy2020 · 10/06/2020 09:12

I took my aspirin until week 38, was taking them to prevent miscarriage due to x2 previous losses, honestly think they were the key to me successfully having my little boy :D all the best with your pregnancy xx
