Baby measuring a week ahead?

Just got back from 15 week ultrasound and a bit worried...Although my dates are pretty accurate and my periods are somewhat regular, baby always measures a week ahead.

I'm worried about two things in particular: Does this mean I'll develop gestational diabetes? Will I be able to deliver vaginally?

What do you think? Sad Were you told the same and how it turned out for you?

My best friend has gone through her whole pregnancy like this - no diabetes, but the baby has measured consistently big. She’s due in a month and currently having regular monitoring to see if they want to let her continue to a vaginal birth. She and the baby are both fine, it’s just on the big side!

I'm a week ahead of what my dates say, but baby is measuring fine and no one has told me I can't have a normal birth.
You're not tested for GD until 25+ weeks, so it's unlikely you will find out anything about it just yet, or be tested for it.
GD is usually when something runs in your family or other contributing factors and your midwife should have discussed this with you when you saw her.
Without sounding horrendously rude, I think you're over thinking it.
If the midwife and doctors are happy with you at this stage then just try and enjoy your pregnancy 🥰

Gestational diabetes causes big babies, not the other way around

My bump is currently 3 weeks ahead (I’m 33 weeks) - just a chunky baby, and still planning a vaginal birth!

Hi op I have always measured ahead with this pregnancy. I'm now 20+4 and have my big scan next Monday will be interesting to see if it is measuring bigger again. At my 16 week appointment baby measured 9 days ahead so Dr changed my due date. Im pretty sure my dates were always right xx

PhoenixBuchanan · 08/06/2020 22:18

Do you mean you are now measuring a week ahead based on your first scan? Or your first scan calculated your due date as a week earlier than you thought based on your cycle? Those are two very different things.

Thanks everyone! I feel better now :)

@zscaler that's a relief! :) My doc also said they will assess whether baby will fit through the birth canal before birth.

@lockdownpregnancy I'm not overthinking because my dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when he was 40 and I'm 31. That puts me in the danger zone. My fasting glucose levels are close to the upper limit but my doc isn't concerned for now because I'm not overweight.

@Nelbert19 I'm worried that I might be pre-diabetic and that's why baby's measuring bigger.

@PhoenixBuchanan first scan was on point, but not much could be seen as it was just 6 weeks. Second scan at 10 weeks measured a few days ahead and today it measured a full week ahead. Doctor says he might need to change my due date...
