Partners at Scans?

I've NC'd because I'm embarrassed that I'm this anxious already!

Hi, I'm being really silly here. I know that, I've not even got a BFP yet... I was just wondering if NHS scans are allowing partners into scans yet? Also - are private clinics allowing partners? Especially in London.

Like I said this is my silly anxious brain talking and I'm not even pregnant yet (that I know of!!)

DH & I are only planning one child & the idea of him missing it makes me really sad!

Thanks!

currently no partners at NHS scans or antenatal appointments as far as I know, when they do start allowing it will probably depend on your hospital as well.

It will depend on the clinic whether the private scans allow partners or not. I had a private scan and partner was allowed, I'd just call beforehand to check the specific one you are planning to go to.

No partners at NHS scans. Have had a couple by myself now and honestly it was fine, you get the scan picture to show your partner. I think in the long run, it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks Both! Just posting here (and chatting to DH) has made me feel better.

What will be will be - we'll sort it out if and when we are lucky enough to get to that point! :)

Silly anxious mind -putting me in a tizz!

Hi OP, no partners allowed at scans in my area yet either but the restrictions are changing all the time. I wouldn't even think about it until/unless you have to.
FWIW, I've had 2 scans on my own and they were absolutely fine. There are plenty of other ways to keep OH involved in your pregnancy.

Pinktruffle · 08/06/2020 15:16

Private clinics are allowing partners @anxiousnotevenpregnantyet
We have had miscarriage and infertility and though we would like another baby after this one, we have no idea if that will be so DH didn't want to miss out. I've attended my NHS one alone as I've been instructed and DH has gone to private scans with me so he doesn't miss out.

C0RA · 08/06/2020 15:21

Please try not to worry, it will be fine. I don’t think most men care very much about it TBH it’s just an blip on a screen and they pretend it’s a big deal to humour us Grin .

Pinktruffle · 08/06/2020 15:24

@C0RA I think that's a huge generalisation. I wasn't bothered about having private scans but my husband was genuinely gutted about not being able to see the baby so I relented in booking them.
Some men care a lot.

Sibz20 · 08/06/2020 15:35

There is hope as mine have started to allow partners from this week 🎉

peachypetite · 08/06/2020 15:39

Not right now but who knows, by the time you get pregnant and are at 12 weeks it could be a different story.

WK29 · 08/06/2020 15:42

@Pinktruffle I agree. My DH is absolutely gutted to be missing scans. Will be booking private within the next few weeks for him.

@Sibz20 Do you mind me asking what area of the UK you’re in?

Sibz20 · 08/06/2020 15:52

@WK29 I’m East Midlands

Anxiousnotevenpregnantyet · 08/06/2020 15:56

Thank you all for being so kind and humouring me!

@WK29 & @Pinktruffle - I agree - I only started thinking about this as DH got visibly emotional at the thought of missing it. (as someone we know had to). Sorry to hear it's been a difficult road @Pinktruffle

Good to know if/when we ever are lucky enough to get there, there might be options, going private etc.

i had my 20w scan a few weeks ago and my OH was allowed in:)

NelliePig · 08/06/2020 16:08

Our hopsital is NHS and is letting partners in on scans where there might be bad news now, I expect in a few more weeks they will also them in for the 12 week ones :) this is what my midwife has been told anyway xx

peachypetite · 08/06/2020 16:09

My 20 week scan is in July so I’m hopeful!! Had my 12 alone

Milnes94 · 08/06/2020 16:25

Ive had nhs scans and 2 private scans since lockdown, none have allowed partners. The private ones did have signs saying they were hoping to allow a visitor soon though.

ArthurandJessie · 08/06/2020 16:34

I wasn't allowed my partner at my 37 week scan for my twins where I found out one didnt have a heartbeat ... it was pretty awful but I still 100% agree that their shouldn't be any partners at this time I hope the covid situation changes and your partner can go with you towards the end x

Anxiousnotevenpregnantyet · 08/06/2020 17:16

I'm so sorry for your loss @ArthurandJessie - and here's me worrying about something really trivial when I don't even need to.

Thank you for sharing and for the reality check! Needed it Flowers
