Sweep

Tomorrow I have a midwife check up I'll be 38+3 and just wondering are they likely to give me a sweep if I ask? I just so done with waiting I know it not certain it will have any effect, am I likely to be given one as I've had no other signs of labour approaching, accept every couple days I get a feeling I've just got off a horse and then the next day the feeling is gone

Hey, I wasn't offered one until I was 40 weeks and it was booked for 40+6

To be fair I didn't ask about earlier though x

Don't think they do them until 40 weeks as there's no clinical need for them earlier unless you need to be induced earlier xx

Plus they only work if your cervix has started to soften/open and at 38 weeks it's unlikely to have started to do that so there's probably very little chance of it working xx

No they won't do one till your 41 weeks or just shy of! I tried for one at 40 weeks and the rules have changed now. They say if something went wrong then you could potentially hold them liable for doing something when the baby may not have been ready to come.

Plus I had two didn't work extremely uncomfortable! Baby will come when they are ready and nothing else will change that as much as you can try haha

Oh that's a shame I did think it would be highly unlikely as there no real medical reason for it thank you for your replies

I’m 38+2 and had a midwife appointment last week. I asked for a sweep to be booked at 39+6 as my midwife only works one day per week and I didn’t want to wait til 40+6. She said it was fine and also said I could have one this coming week at 38+6 if I wanted but it’s better to wait.
