Bartholin Abscess: phoebe’s cure - safe?

Hi all

I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant and have developed what I think is a Bartholin’s cyst which has become an abscess. It’s extremely painful and I’ve been googling ways to treat it. Before having to explore some of the incredibly scary and painful sounding medical options, I want to try the home remedies such as the Sitz baths (basically warm water baths) and Phoebe’s cure which is to put a mixture of calamine lotion, tea tree oil and witch hazel on some cotton wool and apply to the area. Epsom salt baths are also recommended. Has anyone had this condition and is it safe to try phoebe’s remedy whilst pregnant? TIA

Call your GP you will probably need antibiotics

You need to see your GP. You risk infection by fiddling about with it.

Antibiotics to clear the infection from the inside, I hope you feel better soon OP, it’s so painful I know. I have used as hot as you can bear flannel on the area before that burst the cyst and then cleaned with mild salt solution. But being pregnant speak to GP. The chances are they will prescribe antibiotics electronically, without wishing to see you. Good luck.
