Newborn baby clothe sizes

I’m really confused about what sizes to take to the hospital. My baby is predicted to be around 6.5 to 7 pounds when born, according to recent scans. I know these may not be too accurate. What clothe sizes do you think would be best to take?

You might want 3 or 4 newborn size vests/ suits... but they will outgrow them fast.

I found 0-3 months size was fine because although they were on the large side initially, the baby doesn't move much, so although it maybe 'looks better' if they wear the right size, it doesn't much matter. Plus, slightly too large clothes are easier to put on a delicate newborn if you haven't done it before. And longer sleeves can be used like scratch mits if necessary.

That’s what was confusing me, newborn says from 7-9lb, but if my baby happens to be under 7lb am I better off with tiny baby? or will newborn and 0-3 still be ok?

All my babies were above 7lbs and were swamped by 0-3. For DD2 and 3 I only packed newborn and they were in them for weeks. DD2, despite her weight was the size of a tiny baby according to the consultant who delivered her, I still stuck with the newborn size and although it was big on her it wasn't ridiculous.

My baby is 6.5lbs and newborn clothes are roomy
I haven’t bothered to buy anything smaller

I would buy a couple of 1month old and then just 0-3 month

Baby was 8lb8 here, newborn was way too small. He's in 0-3 month now at 4 weeks and they are almost too small even though they say up to 13lb on them and 62cm (hes now 10.5lb, and 57cm).

He could has easily wore them from birth , we just used the 1 month old for 2-3weeks as we had them.

I only had 0-3 for my first and my mil kindly ran out and got me tiny baby. DS was 7.2lb. I will have tiny baby to hand this time around.

I would take maybe one newborn and then a couple of up to 1 month sleepsuits. My DS was 7lb then lost quite a bit of weight in the first week. He wore up to 1 month, yes they were a bit big but it doesn’t really matter Smile

Both mine were in newborn for maybe 2 weeks (and for reference they were both a good 8lb something).

Avoid them temptation to buy bigger because they'll last longer and actually buy what fits, even if they'll only be in them for a couple of weeks. I found that if the grow was too big, they would pull their legs up inside and get tangled.

I only took newborn stuff and was fine. DD was 7lbs 12oz but fit into tiny baby. Newborn was quite roomy on her for a while. She was a skinny minnie (and still is).

PippinStar · 05/06/2020 12:34

Mine was 6lb 2oz, and had plenty of room in newborn. I wouldn't bother with tiny baby, personally. The newborn size will do for a few weeks, whereas tiny baby won't last long at all.

ChelseaCat · 05/06/2020 12:38

Mine was 6lbs 13oz when born and went down to 6lbs 3oz. He wore tiny baby clothes for the first 6-8 weeks (Mad dash to the shops as we had zero tiny baby clothes) and has stayed on the small side since. He’s five months now and only just out of 0-3 months

CarrotPuff · 05/06/2020 17:49

I would get tiny baby ones. My DD was 8lb2 and still could fit into them for a few weeks. DS was 6.14 and wore them for good couple months.

Newborns are quite curled up and I found if clothes are too big their legs slip out of sleepsuit legs and get a bit tangled up.
