I would be really interested to hear from you ladies that are carrying or have carried twins.
My partner is a twin and I have twins on my mums side x2 and my dads side x2 so am wary my chances are increased.
What symptoms or signs did you have before 12 week scan? Or was it a big surprise to you?

I felt crap from the off, just tired and nauseous from like the get go. I actually tested cos I thought I was gonna come on I felt so poo. No actual sickness but the rest of normal pregnancy stuff early and amplified. They're nearly 6 months now

Thought period was about to appear as cramping but felt utterly rubbish , The Darkest of line appeared on test straight away the day before period was due , Extremely sore and heavy boobs , feeling wiped out from day one , extreme nausea and sickness in the evenings but no history of twins so didn’t suspect and only found out at 12 week scan . Thinking back now tho all symptoms were amplified in comparison to my previous single pregnancy’s

Oh yeah I tested like 4 days before I was due and the line was v clear. I had lots of pains so we paid a bit private scan 7 so weeks, they said 1 baby, all fine. So I'd Studley twins but we were told def one baby.
I cannot tell you the shock at 12 weeks when hospital said two...

Hi it's interesting reading this post as I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and just can't shake the feeling of twins! My mum had twins and her grandmother had 2 sets! I got a very dark positive line 3 days before my period was due and had sickness from 4 weeks. I'm absolutely exhausted and my boobs feel like they are going to fall off they are that sore!! I don't remember feeling anything like this with my first pregnancy!

Bubbletrouble43 · 02/07/2020 23:05

I felt soooo tired and had a bump at six weeks or so. There was no way I could conceal my pregnancy till 12 weeks, I looked about 5/6 months pregnant by then.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 02/07/2020 23:09

Well only the twins on your mum’s side increase your chances so don’t worry toooo much 😉.

I got a strong positive a day or two before my period was due. I felt extremely bloated and then the unbelievable tiredness hit me like a tonne of bricks 😳. Then the sickness. Just before my 12 week scan, I could feel the top if my uterus above my public bone which is very early.

We found out at my 12 week scan and it was a total shock. No twins in our family at all!

I am so so tired but do also work full time in a nursery haha! I'm so bloated and nauseas constantly!

I am currently 14 weeks with twins, although don't run in my family so just fluke (identical twins) I was exhausted. If I didn't nap I would literally be falling asleep stood up and waking myself up as my head dropped.
I wasn't as nauseous this time as with singleton though but still a little. I had a few dreams which I laughed off. Oh and I noticed by 11 weeks I was really starting to get a noticeable bump. (Being my second pregnancy I guess my bump was going to probably appear a little sooner anyway) my first is only 16 months old and I barely exercised the baby weight off from him so everything probably still a little stretched anyway lol x

emmavictoria89 · 02/07/2020 23:27

I took a test a week before I was due on cause I felt I just "knew" and had a clear dark line right away.
I had a feeling it was twins cause I had been so sick. Nausea 24/7 and vomiting. Also tiredness like I'd never felt before! I had it confirmed at an early scan around 6-7 weeks.

I'm 15 weeks now and have a very large bump already. The sickness has almost gone just pops up again every now and then. Have just started getting hideous heartburn though.

I kind of just knew from the beginning. There is a history of twins on my mums side. The sickness was the biggest clue for me though. It's my first pregnancy so I don't have anything to compare it too, but it does seem like symptoms are doubled!

FlashesOfRage · 03/07/2020 01:35

I had all the symptoms from 11dpo and should have been able to guess based on the early onset of intense tiredness, nausea, breast pain and mad round ligament pains 😅

I found out at 6+2 after having a bright red bleed, the consultant who saw me said it’s very, very common with twins x

bluemints · 03/07/2020 06:36

Ah I'm scared its twins haha! I'm nearly 4 weeks and there are twins in the family. I got a bfp 8 days before my period was due! I literally got the bfp at 3 weeks pregnant, and had severe acid reflux, I'm worried that such early bfp and symptoms may be an indication of twins 😫 of course it cant be helped but we definitely would struggle to cope with twins with our home life atm so I'm a bit scared haha!

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/07/2020 06:51

Hereditary (fraternal) twins only run on the female side of the family, because it is down to the woman producing 2 eggs so your oh being a twin will have no bearing on your conception of twins. Identical twins can happen to anyone as it's when a single egg splits - twin mum myself with fraternal twins. We thought the twin link came from dh as his aunt is a surviving twin and there are no known twins in my family at all.

@bluemints I know this is old but... was it twins?! 😂
