Worrying about missed miscarriage

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and due my scan next week. But I'm so worried that when I have my scan there will be no heartbeat. This is based on nothing, purely anxiety, but obviously it happens and I can't get it out of my head.
If I was to have had a mmc, would I still be getting pregnancy symptoms? And would a test still be positive or when the heart stops beating does everything just stop?

Hi didn't want to read and run. It's a scary time so understand your anxiety 100%. I had a mmc at about 8 weeks. I was having pregnancy symptoms but just felt something was wrong kept getting sharp pains on one side so originally thought it was ectopic. I also only had one sore boob which I found odd. I have two DDs so I knew the pain was different to normal stretching pain I'd had previously.

My tests were positive for about a month after the mmc eventually they faded and went to a negative but it took time. It was frustrating because we wanted a baby and wanted to begin trying straight away again.

It sounds harsh but nothing you can do to prevent these things they just sometimes don't work out and it's awful. Fingers crossed for you though there is no reason why the result won't be a good one at your scan.

@startswithanL I'm so sorry, did you find out at your 12 week scan or earlier? I know what will be will be and I can't change that. I remember with my first I lay awake all night the night before my scan worrying about the same thing and everything was fine. And obviously there's nothing I can do until the scan! It's only 5 days away and it feels like forever.

No i didn't because I just felt like the pain I was having was odd probably deep down knew it wasn't going to happen so had an early scan at the local EPU and they just said it was a mmc and the pregnancy wasn't viable/no heartbeat.

I'm sure you will be absolutely fine I've heard some really nice pregnancy stories lately and not as much bad news so hopefully
You will be the same Smile

Hi @Twitchett22 . So sorry to hear your going through this it’s such a worrying time waiting for your scan .

I am currently also 11 weeks pregnant and petrified of loss, I actually did a post a few weeks back following some brown discharge I had and some cramping .

All I can tell you is my experiences, I had a MMC with my first at 11 weeks I had no idea anything was wrong until the bleeding started a few days before my 12 week scan. But to answer your question you can have symptoms still and a have a positive pregnancy test for some weeks after.

With my second I just had a horrible feeling I was going to suffer another MMC I made myself physically sick before the scan and had a massive panic attack however here I am with my healthy 16 month old now, so the point I’m making is you just never know so try not to worry I know it’s easier said than done.

Wishing you all the luck in the world that your little bambino is healthy, I’m sure everything will be fine and it’s just your anxiety taking over xxx

I'm totally feeling you hun. I'm 10 weeks and have my scan 2 weeks today. I'm so totally sure there won't be a heartbeat. Based on absolutely nothing of course, I've had no pain and no bleeding.

I've had mmc's before though. One I had spotting, the other no symptoms at all.

I had a mmc last year and I found out at a private scan at 9 weeks. I ended up having surgical management at 12 weeks and I didn't lose symptoms whatsoever. It took 3 weeks to get a negative test after my surgery.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Thanks for the support though it's nice to know I'm not the only one who worries. Fingers crossed I'm worrying over nothing!

I totally understand OP because I was exactly the same before my 12 week scan (which was yesterday). I’m sure I will be the same before the 20 week scan as well.

It’s very hard to rationalise your way out of anxiety. I just kept telling myself that the odds were hugely on my side - miscarriages with no signs are very rare, and your body is doing what it’s designed to do.

I hope your scan is a lovely and reassuring experience when it comes Flowers
