I'm just wondering how the pandemic has affected your check ups & scans?

Scans happening as normal, just can’t take anyone in with me (ie. DH)
Midwife appointments have been on the phone, except one I had with a specialist mental health midwife, which was offered remotely or in person but I chose to go in. Ended up doing my 16 week appointment in person whist there.

I know there’s lots of variation across the country though, lots of women are feeling neglected

Any midwife appointments that you usually have in first pregnancy but not in 2nd+ e.g, 25 weeks, 31 weeks are cancelled/over phone. Other appointments going ahead as normal but with midwives in full PPE. I understand you have to go to scans alone too, I was lucky to have both my scans before lockdown x

bluebell94 · 04/06/2020 15:51

Booking appointment and 16 week appointment over the phone, have to attend scans alone.

Ginfilledcats · 04/06/2020 15:53

I was 28 weeks when we went into lock down, so any appts I've had since my husband wouldn't have been with me anyway so no different. All have been face to face though

sel2223 · 04/06/2020 16:02

This started right after my 16 week appointment so, the only one that's really been affected for me was the 25 week appointment which was cancelled.

My 20 week scan went ahead as normal but obviously no partners allowed then consultant appointments and 28 week midwife appointment have all been face to face

rocknrosie · 04/06/2020 16:04

i'm 25w and scans are all as normal i assume (FTM), but all appts with MW have gone to phone :)

Lily2020 · 04/06/2020 19:30

Thanks for the replies ladies 😊 so just to clarify, there will be no appointments to take bloods, listen to heartbeat, test urine, measure bump etc..

bluebell94 · 04/06/2020 19:34

I had my booking appointment over the phone at 8 weeks then had a very quick appointment to take my bloods. Heartbeat, bump and urine aren't routinely tested in my NHS trust until 24wk appointment which will be face to face then anyway, all appointments after 16 weeks are face to face as they have to do those things. I don't think care is lacking and certainly not felt I've had anything missed as yet.

Chl00 · 04/06/2020 19:35

Midwife appointments have been on the phone so when I go to my scans they make me do my urine sample and bloods there, haven’t been allowed my partner with me so he’s waited in the car while I did all this😅 private scans partners are allowed to go to though

mouse1234567 · 04/06/2020 19:40

Have had regular midwife appointments to monitor urine, bp etc. I on,y had my 34 weeks cancelled as they believed it was better to stay away from hospital between 32 and 36 weeks.

Foxd0g · 04/06/2020 19:50

Had all mine - nearly 39 weeks though, so the earlier ones I'd already had. My trust are doing all midwife appointments as normal, face-to-face, midwives wear PPE and where possible they call you when they're ready and you go in, so no waiting rooms. All blood, urine, BP done as normal. Have a sweep in a few days too.

The only phone appointments they're doing in my trust is for speaking with the consultant, but only if it genuinely doesn't need to be done face-to-face.

I've also had iron transfusions on the ward.

Obv DP hasn't been able to attend anything though.

Every hospital is different.

Your best bet is to talk to the hospital

Lily2020 · 04/06/2020 22:12

Thanks a lot 😊
Just wanted to get a feel for what's to come, and hear what others have experienced, booking appointment next week over phone.

My 16 week appointment was cancelled and 20 week scan I was on my own but able to FaceTime DH so we found out the sex of the baby together. I'm booked in for my 28 week appointment in 3 weeks and they said they'll be doing bloods, urine etc but said just not to bring anyone with me

AMileInMyShoes · 04/06/2020 23:17

A friend wasn't able to facetime her party, so he wasn't involved when she found out the sex.

Every hospital is different

Fingerscrossed11 · 05/06/2020 01:11

I had booking in appointment which was nearly at the 12 wk Mark for me. Had 12 and 20 week hospital scans. No other midwife appointment except from last week which she came to my home as it had been so long since my last midwife app and took blood pressure, and listened to baby heartbeat. I’ve had no bloods taken except for Down syndrome screening after my 12 wk scan at hospital and no urine tested at all. Next app 2 weeks away. I’m 25 wks today x

Viletta · 05/06/2020 01:30

All midwife appointment are over the phone, 26w included. Scans as usual but without the partner, sonographer popped sex reveal into an envelope for both of us to open.

BeHappyAndSmile · 05/06/2020 07:49

My 3rd midwife appointment will be when I'm 29 weeks. First time mum and I've seen the midwife once per trimester. No phone appointments here just cancelled ones, the scans have gone ahead as normal but theyve adjusted the midwife appointments to coincide with them to make it safer for everyone. You can still speak to your community midwife and they'll call you back etc if you've got a problem though.
