Light brown discharge (TMI)

Applesnow22 · 03/06/2020 16:00

I am currently 5+1 weeks pregnant and I have noticed some brownish yellow discharge on my panty liners sorry for TMI.

The discharge started off as the normal white discharge before and wasn't too heavy but today, I have noticed the discharge change to light brown and it is coming in heavier than before.

I have been having mild cramping on my left side and find myself going to the bathroom to continuously checking if there is any change.

As this happened to anyone before? Is this normal?
I don't really have any pregnancy symptoms, never really did.
I don't have my first ultrasound until next Friday, so my mind is scrambled until then.

Sorry you're experiencing this. I'm 11 weeks now and had this twice. Each time I had a private scan and everything was fine, they said it was old blood leaving the body and not to be worried. Easier said than done though!
I even called EPU the second time and they said they wouldn't see me unless it was red blood and I had pain.
Everyone's different but it's likely you'll be ok. If it gets worse or changes to red definitely call your EPU though.
Take care

@Natt99 Congratulations and I am happy that everything worked out for you!

I am monitoring my cramps and discharge frequently, making sure nothing changes. I believe the hardest part is not knowing for a week and a half to make sure everything is okay with the little one!

I am trying not to stress until next Friday. Thank you for the support

The only thing I would be worried is that one sided pain and brown (usually watery discharge) can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. I would call your local EPU just to be on the safe side.

I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about, but they may be able to give you some advice ❤️

Natt99 · 03/06/2020 18:52

Thanks hun, I know the feeling, going to the toilet lots just to check.
Sorry didn't realise your scan was next Friday, I would recommend a private scan earlier but I think most places can't scan you until you're 6 weeks so unfortunately it seems like a case of waiting it out. Let us know how you get on x

Applesnow22 · 03/06/2020 18:56

@milkshake54 It is funny that you said that, because my OBGYN thought I might of had an ectopic pregnancy, but because my HCG levels were rising (more than doubling), she ruled that out for now.

And yes the discharge is a bit watery and a constant mild cramp on the left side. I guess I will not know until next Friday for sure. Just hoping for the best.

I will phone my doctor and see what are their thoughts.

Thank you Flowers

@Natt99 Yes, I think at this point it is a waiting game.
I will phone my doctor just to make sure everything is okay.

I will definitely give you girls an update on Friday as soon as I receive it. Praying all goes well

What country are you in? I would def call ASAP don’t leave it. Is your scan this week or next week?
Very high HCG can also be a sign of ectopic.
I read your post as your scan is the Friday after this one - but if it is this one coming you are probably OK to wait. I wouldn’t leave it over a week though. If it is ectopic, you would be better off getting an answer sooner as I’ve heard horror stories about ruptured tubes...

Again, ectopics are quite rare, so I’m sure it’s fine but better to be safe!

MinesALatte · 03/06/2020 20:30

Sorry you’re going through this OP, I hope it all turns out ok 🤞🏻

Can I just ask how you’re getting your hcg levels checked? Is that via blood test? I’m only asking as I’d like mine checked!

Applesnow22 · 03/06/2020 20:35

@milkshake54

I tried calling but my doctor was not in until tomorrow :(
I am in the US.
My HCG aren't too high but they are doubling rather quickly.
Started with around 200 and within 4/5 days it jumped over 2000.
Is that strange?

I will definitely reach out tomorrow and see what are my options. I am hoping for the best here but my appt isn't until the 12th so I will be waiting awhile unless my doctor has another option.

@MinesALatte
Thank you for the support and congrats on the pregnancy Flowers
How many weeks are you?

My OBGYN suspected an ectopic pregnancy because my left side was tender and swollen when I was early 4 weeks.
She ordered blood work to be done every other day for 3 consecutive test, just to see how my HCG levels were progressing. They were rising (more than doubling) and they ruled out ectopic for now.

If you ask your doctor, they should be able to provide you with bloodwork to test the HCG, just to ease your mind a bit!

@Applesnow22 thank you ☺️ I’m 4 weeks, very early days!
Ahh ok, that makes sense! I don’t think in the UK any fears are being addressed early on sadly, I’ve seen a lot of messages on here of ladies phoning doctors and EPU and being told to wait Sad

Applesnow22 · 03/06/2020 22:47

@minesALatte
So we are due around the same time!

I am very grateful that my doctor was very on top of it since the beginning! She has been more than helpful, but the waiting period between now and the first ultrasound is probably the worst Sad

Hello,

I wanted to update, just in case someone runs into the same issue.
I went for my ultrasound, the baby was discovered to be a few days smaller than intended (by 4-5days).

On Friday, based off of my LMP, I should be 6+ 3 and I was measuring 5+5.

Doctors did not find that as much of a concern. Heartbeat and all!

They did find a hemorrhage about 2cm right under the fetal pole.
I need to go back to check if the hemorrhage is increasing in size.

Never experienced this before. I do not have much spotting, rather just cramps on my left side (whether the baby is). So now just another game of waiting here.
