20 weeks scan nerves

I’ve got my 20 week scan in 2 weeks and feel really nervous.. I’m not sure if I’ve felt movement yet and my symptoms have eased so much. Probably nothing but just wanted to see if anyone else felt/ is feeling like this?

Yes, with my last pregnancy I really got myself into a state before 20wk scan - convinced myself that something was wrong, hadn’t felt any movements at all. Turned out I had posterior placenta that was probably cushioning all the kicks, baby was absolutely fine, started really moving around 23-24 weeks and is now a very boisterous 4yo!

Good luck for your scan. Pregnancy can be an awful time for anxiety, never mind the current climate we’re living through...

Danielle95lab · 03/06/2020 15:12

Me too! Mines actually Friday but I'm so so nervous for it. Such an important scan. I have felt flutters here and there but nothing I can be certain about it. It's such an awkward time in pregnancy especially with most my symptoms fading xx

sel2223 · 03/06/2020 15:33

I get scan anxiety before every scan, it's completely normal....and i felt no movements until i was over 22 weeks so don't worry about that. My baby was kicking and spinning like crazy at the 20 week scan but I couldn't feel a thing (found out I have an anterior placenta)
Symptom wise, the second trimester is by far the best so enjoy it while it lasts.

Chl00 · 03/06/2020 19:32

Thanks for the reassurance, I’ve felt little twinges a couple times but I don’t know if it’s movement or just my own body doing weird stuff 😅 everyone keeps saying it will feel like a butterfly in my belly or like wind moving around 😂

I was so nervous before my 20 week scan too! I also hadn't felt anything (or at least not for sure) before then but now (23 weeks) the movements are unmistakable!

xkjl1x · 04/06/2020 09:31

I am at that point too. My partner has banned me off Google x congratulations im sure everything will be OK enjoy it xx

BeMorePacific · 04/06/2020 09:37

2 weeks today for me too, it can’t come soon enough. Good luck, the odds of good news are in your favour xxx

WK29 · 04/06/2020 09:42

I feel like I could have written this post myself 🙈 This is definitely a stage of pregnancy that I hadn’t prepared myself for. I just feel constantly anxious!

mumtobewithanxiety · 04/06/2020 10:22

I have mine on Monday and I'm so nervous!
Ive not felt movement and just feel like I'm not pregnant! It's such an anxious time xx

biscuit13 · 04/06/2020 12:03

@Chl00 I'm the same, my 20 week scan is in 2 weeks and some days I feel like I'm not pregnant (other than having a bump). I think I have felt some little things but like you I dont know if it's just my body tricking me 🙈 just want to see my little baby wriggling around again. The wait is so long!

biscuit13 · 04/06/2020 12:32

@WK29 same! First it was "get past the 12 week scan and i can relax"
Then it was "hear the heartbeat at 16 werks and i can relax"
Now its "see the 20 week scan and hopefully I can relax?"
It's not going to get better is it? 😂

Enterthedragons · 04/06/2020 12:38

No sadly it doesn’t biscuit!

And then once they get here you spend the rest of your life worrying about them... it becomes the new normal!

WK29 · 04/06/2020 12:39

@biscuit13 I’m so anxious I haven’t even told anyone except immediate family 🙈 Unfortunately my 16 week appointment was over the phone so I’ve had no reassurance since the 12 week scan lol. Fingers crossed we all get some reassurance after the scans!!

Have you started buying anything yet? X

WhatWouldPennyDo · 04/06/2020 12:44

I know everyone is different but I have been amazed by how much difference the fortnight between 18-20 weeks has made to how much movement I feel. Even if you don’t feel much now it could well change significantly between now and then.

Good luck for the scan!

biscuit13 · 04/06/2020 12:48

@wk29 aw we felt confident enough to tell people after 12 week but then it comes to the next thing and I start doubting whether it was the right thing to do.
Aw that's a shame, I was praying it was going to be a face to face and hear the heartbeat, so that was lucky I think as I know a lot of people have had theirs cancelled.
Yeah we have actually got quite a lot already.... we got all excited after the scan and then the appointment so weve got a few clothes, and quite a few accessories. And my dad bought us a cot, but we are waiting until after 20 week scan until we put it up.
Have you bought much? X

WK29 · 04/06/2020 13:08

@biscuit13 aww I’m glad you got a face to face 16 week appointment 😊 I have my scan in a couple of weeks then my first face to face is at 22 weeks to see the midwife and get whooping cough vaccine.

Awww it’s getting so hard keeping it quiet from people now 🙈 my friends are all trying to make plans for activities at the end of the year once all this lockdown is hopefully over and I’m just like “yeah! Absolutely, sounds great!” 🤣 so I’m sure they’ll be shocked.

Sounds like you have things well under control! We’ve done a bit of research into certain things that we think we would like but haven’t bought anything at all yet 🙈 We’ll maybe start after the 20 week scan lol.

biscuit13 · 04/06/2020 23:52

Ah yeah that will be good then, hopefully you get a bit more contact going forward.
I dont know how you've kept so quiet! I couldnt wait to tell my friends I was just so excited. Haha. Is this your first baby too?

@WhatWouldPennyDo that's what I'm hoping will happen in the next week or so...

Having said that for a few days i briefly get what I can only describe as dull period pains that last maybe like 1 or 2 minutes and when I feel my lower tummy there is a solid lump really close to the front of my tummy. Is this baby pushing against my tummy? Because I feel there at other times and cant feel it as much.

New2020 · 05/06/2020 06:40

I have my 20 week scan next Friday and feeling very anxious.

Haven't felt any movement yet either and I keep thinking of my 12 week scan and the sonographer saying the baby was nice and still...I hope it's all ok :(

On top of it I've read about all the things they check for and getting more worried. Wish my husband could be there

Danielle95lab · 05/06/2020 11:28

I've just had mine today ladies and it was fantastic. Initially thought i was going to vomit from nerves, but as soon as I was in the room the lady was so lovely.

I was extra anxious cause of my low papp-a and baby's growth. But she examined my little boy from top to toe and he's thriving. Little bugger stuck his two fingers up at us a few times 😂

Anyway, to help put your mind at ease. Before my scan I've not felt much movement and what I have felt could be gas bubbles I just don't have a clue. I've also lost most of my original symptoms and quite frankly don't feel pregnant. I was even worried my bump wasn't growing. So it just goes to show that regardless of all those things, the 20 week scan can still go brilliantly.

Best of luck to you all! Keep us updated on here xxx

chubbyhotchoc · 05/06/2020 11:40

Welcome to motherhood. It's one thing after another as soon as you get that bfp. Why am I spotting? Will the 12week scan be ok? 20 week? is it moving? I think it's moving less today? Should I go in for monitoring? Can I deliver it safely? Then as soon as you have it you worry about it SIDS and a million other things.
I didn't feel my first move until 18/19 weeks, if you have a placenta at the front it'll be later

Chl00 · 05/06/2020 14:17

Oh wow guys thank you for all your comments it’s really nice to hear I’m not the only one, I just thought that I would share that I’m officially 19 weeks today and the baby’s started kicking 😍

OP posts:
sunshineinmay · 05/06/2020 14:47

It's really reassured me to read all your comments - seems like a common thing to be a bit anxious. I've not met my midwife yet due to the covid stuff, maybe in regular times they are more on hand to be reassuring? Seems like this should be a stage we can all enjoy and look forward, and in my opinion the time between week 12 and 20 is far too long for a mum-to-be's mental health to, if like me you haven't felt movement, just have to wait and gather anxious thoughts.

Me and my husband paid for a private scan last week at 19 weeks cause I just couldn't face going alone to the 20 week. It was special to share it together anyway. I understand the sensitivities around covid and having lots of people in hospital, but I think having a partner there would ease a lot of my stress and anxiety.

Pol96 · 05/06/2020 14:49

@Chl00 ahh it's so exciting and from all these comments it's totally normal to feel worried.. I can't wait to feel movement etc but I'm a long way off that yet! X

biscuit13 · 05/06/2020 15:34

@Chl00 that's amazing! So exciting that you've started feeling baby kicking! I cant wait!

Chl00 · 05/06/2020 15:42

@biscuit13 thanks, it was so cool I kept getting tiny flutters but I tried not to think into it and then earlier I felt a big ‘flutter’ and pushed gently where I felt it and got a big kick back at me ☺️
