32 week scan tomorrow - low lying placenta

Hi all
As above I have my 32 week scan tomorrow as my placenta was lying low - anyone that’s had this, had it moved? I know it’s likely but I am a little nervous for some reason 😞

Do you know how low it was to start with?

At 16 weeks I found out I had a low lying placenta (sent for scan as midwife couldn't find a heartbeat).

At 20 weeks it was still flagged as low lying and anterior, slightly blocking the cervix but not fully covering.

At 28 weeks I had a scan due to bleeding and the placenta has now moved out of the way so I can go ahead and have the water birth I wanted (no obvious reason to have a section).

I did have my 34 week scan booked for the end of June for this but we've cancelled it as there was no need to see them again.

Don't worry, they're more likely to move than not.

Good luck for tomorrow.
I have a scan in a couple of weeks to see if mine has moved up, fingers crossed!

Apples6544 · 03/06/2020 12:35

I had this, mine had moved by 32 weeks. Good luck!

@Babyshine2020 I think the thing is the sonography briefly mentioned it but didn’t really explain, then I looked it up and thought ‘oh shit’. It’s not fully covering so fingers crossed.

Do you get to see much of baby? I’m looking forward to seeing her again but guessing emphasis will be on briefly checking the placenta.

I had my 32week scan on Thursday and mine had moved :) I think 9 out of 10 times it moves, I wouldn’t worry!

Dementeddotcom · 03/06/2020 12:58

Also the sonographer showed me my baby again, and he gave me a thumbs up which was nice Grin

Sonographer did all babies measurements at the scan again, got to see everything 😊

Babyshine2020 · 03/06/2020 13:53

They never mentioned it to me either, just a brief comment and it wasn't until I went to book my next scan (the 34 week) that I questioned it with the lady on the desk and she explained a general bit about it and then I went to good old Dr Google and freaked out about maybe having to have a section.

I had to go alone but I was baby and got a few photos.

Look at these feet! Haha. Explains what's been kicking my ribs.

Mine hasn’t moved, and is fully covering with no chance of it moving. I am being closely monitored but not kept in hospital like I read and panicked! Try not to worry, the fact yours wasn’t fully covering is a good sign, so hopefully its fully moved xx

Following this thread to see how you get on tomorrow!

June was flagged at 20 week scan as low lying but that's all the sonographer said and I didn't think to ask how low.

All the best for tomorrow I hope you get a lovely look of your little one 😊

Birdy1991 · 03/06/2020 17:53

Thanks @Sunsage it’s at 9.50 so nice and early, I’ll let you know how it goes. How far along are you?

Hi, mine was fully covering the cervix at 20 week scan but had moved completely by 32 week scan last week. I’d also googled far too much! Good luck!

Birdy1991 · 04/06/2020 11:37

Good news, the placenta has moved well out of the way, she’s got her head down now and her measurements were all pretty much on the 50th percentile! And she doubly confirmed I’m having a girl! Result 😃😌 x

That’s great news! Xx

Sunsage · 04/06/2020 21:39

Great news Birdy!! I'm 26 weeks xx

My placenta was found to be covering the cervix at my 20 week scan but I wasn’t told if partially or completely. Apparently most move up as the womb grows. Also I heard it’s most common in people who have had c sections before, not sure how accurate that is. My last child was breech and born c section. Current pregnancy still feeling movement very low but have 32 week scan scheduled.
Best of luck, 90% times placenta moves
