More of a rolling/squirming feeling instead of kicks?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant ftm and have spoke to my midwife about this at my 28 week appointment, she reassured me that this can be normal and as long as I am feeling the same amount of movements that is normal for me all is fine and that a movement isn't always a kick but just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced similar?

I have an anterior placenta but have had kicks etc from around 19/20 weeks since 27 and a half weeks its become more of a rolling/squirming feeling directly under the skin, I still get the odd kick or rib jab but more of the rolling movements. The movements are more often than before so not worried about a lack of just can't stop thinking and over analysing!

This happened to me, too, around 26–28 weeks (I'm currently 29+3). I'm getting same amount of movement at the same times, but it's just different types. I think it's because baby has less space now (in my pregnancy app it said from 24–28 weeks baby doubles in size!). The kicks I do get are much harder and jerk my tummy but most of the time it's squirming and pressing/pushing against my uterus rather than all the kicks I was getting before.

I can't believe baby is still going to grow almost three times its size!

I’m the same - I’ve been having a lot more rolling and squirming since about 26 weeks (I’m now 28). He’s having a little squirm now actually. I do still get kicks, it’s probably 70% squirms 30% kicks. I figure as long as I’m feeling movement he’s ok but interested to hear from others

I went in at 28/29 weeks with this for monitoring. Turns out baby has gone breech and has been breech ever since.
I was used to kicks like yourself.
All I get now is a back rolling or a head bobbing up and down. I do feel faint kicks down below, and when she turns with limbs to me i feel her loads.
It's really weird getting used to all these different moves from different positions of baby. Iv been in every week so far for monitoring as some days I barely feel her 😫 but all has been fine. Now 31+3

Same here, also ended up going in for monitoring a few times around 28/29 weeks & 32 weeks because I was getting squirms and rolls instead of "usual" kicks. Has continued like that ever since - a lot of movement with occasional kicks but more movement than anything else. Now at 37 ish weeks.

Thanks for replying!

Good to know others are having similar movements! Like I said midwife wasn't concerned as I am still getting regular movements at my usual times they just feel different but it makes sense that he may have less room so is pushing and rolling more. I also think he is facing my spine as sometimes his bum or head midwife couldn't work out which one sticks out really far and looks a bit alien like 😂 He is having a little session now which feels quite jerky but strong so all good just always hearing about kicks so wanted to see what other people were experiencing.

I’m 31+5.

This baby doesn’t move all that much! I have an hour or so of movement first thing in the morning and again when I get into bed at night, with only the odd movement in between. I also get far more rolling and squirming and only occasional kicks, I’ve raised it with my midwife and she’s happy she says as long as it’s normal for me. I don’t have anterior placenta and at growth scan last week baby was head down already, so I think it’s just how this baby is.

Last night I was having a stress because I’d been in bed a while and the movements hadn’t started, I was just getting up to look at my notes and contemplate calling triage when I got a huge boot in the ribs, but that kind of kick is quite rare.

My baby used to do what I can only describe as massive arse wiggles! He remains a wriggly soul now he's arrived.

Ginblooded · 02/06/2020 10:37

Yes, I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and have noticed a lot more rolls and wiggles! Like a pp, it's probably 70% rolls 30% kicks. Kicks seem to be aimed at my ribs and side so I'm sure it depends how baby is lying too 😊

Bleepers · 02/06/2020 15:21

My baby never really kicked, just squirmed and rolled. She's absolutely fine! I really wouldnt worry. X

NishaaS123 · 03/06/2020 05:57

I also have an anterior placenta and I am 31 weeks since 27 weeks baby hardly kicks me and it's just movements midwife said its because baby has room now so it's harder for him to kick now as long as you feel him move according to your pattern alls good my one doesnt even have a pattern lol for me as long hes moving throughout the day should be fine

Dementeddotcom · 03/06/2020 13:06

I’m not getting kicks now it’s full on barrel rolling around my uterus 😂 I’m 33 weeks

RyvitaBrevis · 03/06/2020 15:06

I think people tend to use "kick" as shorthand for a whole range of movements. I've had relatively few actual kicks but lots of rolling, rippling, wriggling, stretching, squirming, hiccuping, etc.

cactuspear · 03/06/2020 15:25

I've been the same, baby seems to have moved position last night or something at 31 weeks and it was quite painful real kicks I was getting but back to normal today. I also have an anterior placenta :)

MrsRose2018 · 03/06/2020 17:37

Omg OP, I’m 33 weeks and I swear to god all this boy does it just drags his little feet and fists across my uterus!

I can even feel this kind of build up like a coiled spring before he has a roll!! It’s killer!!

snch · 03/06/2020 17:54

I'm 28 weeks with an anterior placenta and for the last few weeks I've been getting looooads of squirming and rolling movements and the odd few kicks. It's such a weird feeling can mostly feel them when lying on my right side and I'll get kicks if I'm sat up.

2020Aug · 03/06/2020 18:20

I'm 30 weeks and my movements are now mostly wiggles and baby also likes stretching out so I keep getting limbs poking out both sides at the same time! The odd kick I have had is so painful now!

locked2020 · 03/06/2020 19:01

Mine always felt more like a swooshing, like a wave rolling or something.
