When do you get told about bloods etc?

Hi everyone. I am 11+3 and had my midwife appointment at around 8 weeks. At the appointment she took blood and a urine sample. I haven’t heard anything since then - is it safe to assume that if there has been any concerns, they would have contacted me by now, rather than waiting til my next appointment to tell me?

Yes I didn't hear anything until my next appointment with midwife at 16 weeks. I assume if you haven't heard anything there are no concerns 😃

A midwife told me my 8 week results after my 12 week scan but I had gone in for the combined test and don't think I would've been told otherwise, I would've just had the scan and left. I would just assume everything is fine 😊

I had bloods taken at my booking in appt then just discussed the results at 16 week appt.

I then had blood taken again at 28 weeks and am now 29+4 and haven't heard anything so assume I'll just find out about these at my next midwife appointment at 32 weeks.

I'm pretty sure they would contact you sooner if anything showed up.

16 week telephone appointment but there wasn’t anything worrying, I imagine if there had been I’d have been told sooner.

As above had mine discussed at 16 week appointment. Had blood taken at 28 week appointment recently and they called 3 days later to say I'm anemic and they're writing to my GP to prescribe tablets, so I think they'd call if something was up.

Thank you everyone - that is reassuring!

I got a sheet with the blood results on at my 12 week scan and then the midwife spoke through them with me in more detail at 16 week appointment

Foreverbaffled · 02/06/2020 06:33

Oh you definitely would have heard something if any concerns but you could always call your GP as they will likely have a copy of the results too (mine does).

@zscaler Yeah I was told that those first bloods are just to check your health and to put in your notes - they’ll only get in touch if there is something that needs checked again or needs some kind of treatment.

That being said - I had all my bloods taken at my scan appointment as my booking had been over the phone. I was actively bleeding at the time (and had been on and off for a couple of weeks) and the midwife took a note of it and said they would call me the next day with my bloods if I was found to have a Rh Neg blood type (strong history in my family) as I would need an injection. Said if I didn’t hear from her to assume everything was fine and if the bleeds stayed the same level then not to bother calling EPU again because everything was fine. A week later I was getting very distressed over just ignoring the bleeds as the midwife had told me to so called EPU just for a bit of reassurance that I was doing the right thing - and was told I should have been in ASAP because it’s all over my file on their system that I’m Rh Neg and need an Anti D injection ASAP 🙄

Apparently I should have had an immediate phonecall and a letter. Letter did turn up 2 weeks later but no call. So if there’s anything that you’re particularly worried about then just call the maternity unit and ask if your results are in your file 😊

I was told they would be in touch if there was anything wrong.
I can also see all blood test results on my surgery's Web portal - it gives me a graph for showing every time I've had that test done and whether the value is within the "normal" range. I usually check a few days after the bloods were taken to see if the results are back and whether I should be expecting a call or not.

With my first pregnancy I was told at my 16 week appointment that my bloods were all good . However prior to that my midwife called to tell me I’m RH negative which I already knew .

With my current pregnancy I was told at my 12 week scan that my bloods were all good . I was also told that I was RH negative ( I also received a letter in the mail telling me this which I might have for my first pregnancy as well but I can’t remember )

I believe they will contact you if anything needs addressing .
