Hayfever Spray

Does anyone know if you can use Beconase hayfever spray ( beclometasone dipropionate) during pregnancy?

I'm 34 weeks and taking an antihistamine tablet daily but still sneezing lots which is making me feel rough. Usually I find an anti allergy nasal spray is the only way to stop the sneezing but didn't know if it was safe to use during pregnancy. On the packet it says consult your doctor before using if pregnant, but don't want to book an appointment just for that

Yes I take this nose spray and always have done pretty much. I'm now 20wks and at my booking appointment around 9/10 they told me it's fine to use they just don't specifically say safe to use in pregnancy on the label as no studies have looked at this specifically.

Thanks, I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday so will double check then too.

My partner did ask the pharmacist but they said the only spray you can use in pregnancy is one of those expensive natural salt water sprays which didn't seem right to me

I asked the exact same question to my midwife/pharmacist and they told me the only one I could use was Becodefence. It's the nose barrier that's completely drug free. They said all of the other nose sprays like Beconase etc caused cleft palete in studies and tests against animals and it was a strong possibly it happens in humans too! 😩

I am 23 weeks and my dr prescribed Beconase hayfever spray ( beclometasone dipropionate) and also some eye drop. Loratadine is also safe.

Just an update, I checked with my doctor this morning and they said Beconase was ok to use. Not sure if this is safe throughout pregnancy or because I'm 34 weeks now, but at least it'll save me sneezing my head off if the warm weather returns!
