Pregnancy test at doctors

Should I be concerned??

I’m 6 weeks pregnant on Wednesday and my GP has asked me to do a test for there records which is fine. I dropped the urine sample off and they said they needed to send it off? Is this normal?.

With my son I was at a different docs and they tested it at the surgery. I feel really worried for some reason.

Is this in the UK? In my area you don't see a GP at all, you just self refer to the midwife team.
Nobody ever actually confirmed my pregnancy.

I am pregnant with my second and both times they haven't had to do their own tests

This is in the uk.

With my son the nurse at the surgery Confirmed it but this time they shocked me by saying it needs to be sent off. Surely it’s just an easy test.

They referred me to the midwife a few weeks ago and never mentioned doing a test yet I phoned today and she said I needed to do one.

They may have sent it away for infection testing rather than pregnancy testing. My midwife was always sent my first wee sample off for testing to ensure no UTI x

My dr didn't confirm at all, which kind of surprised me... in fact no one in the process got me to do a test, which was partly why I was so nervous before the 12 week scan! Kept having doubts about 'what if there's another reason I've not been having periods', 'what if the supermarket tests weren't accurate'.

Thinking about it now, no-one ever confirmed my pregnancy either. I jsut phoned the doctors and told them I was pregnant and they referred me to a midwife.

Sounds like they dipped it and found something that could indicate infection (usually it’s just a bit of discharge contaminating the sample) and need to send it off to check. You’d never need to send off a sample for pregnancy testing!
