Trimester weight gain

Just out of interest, what trimester have you put on the most weight?

I'm curious more than anything, I'm not calories counting and accepted whatever weight I put on will be dealt with in the future.

I'm 30+5 and I've put on 7.3kg which is essentially 16lb. I'm eating 3 meals a day and snacking as and when I feel like I want something.

Lost weight in the first two, put it all back on again in the 3rd lol.

@Emberfoot 😂 I hear that a lot, I didn't get morning sickness so it's built from day 1, but I know what I'd rather have personally Halo

Hi, at what stage did you notice your tummy grow? I haven't had a scan yet but am estimated at 8 weeks however I'm measuring myself weekly and have put on just over half an inch this week! I'm starting to think I'm more like 12 weeks (all sickness has gone away too!) but do you start to grow that early?! I don't think I would have put on 1/2 inch in fat as have been eating less than normal!

I'm placemarking as wondering the same thing. I'm 23 weeks and have put in 6.8 lbs which is under what's recommended if you started off on normal BMI. My bump hasn't grown for 4 weeks either (I'm measuring every week in the morning before food so I'm sure). Can I expect a sudden explosion and 2 stone weight gain in the third trimester? 😅

I didnt put on any weight until about 22 weeks, I'm now 29+5 and have gained about 5kg so mine has clearly gone on end of the second/early third trimester. I'm slim so was worried about not putting any on, but seems to be catching up now and bump was measuring bang on at 28 weeks! At the moment mine seems to be just bump and boobs.

Amichelle84 · 01/06/2020 13:15

I lost 3kg in the first tri and have put that much back on at 28w. Worried I should have put on more.

That's where my question stemmed from. I read a lot about the 1-2lb a week gain etc but I wouldn't say I started putting much weight on until around 20 weeks (maybe a few lbs but I was still wearing my normal jeans to work).

I'd say my bump started to look more like a baby and not bloat from around 23/24 weeks. My BMI was 28 pre-baby and I was wearing a size 12, I'm still in size 12 maternity clothes and I've dug our some of last years summer clothes (elasticised floaty shorts and dresses) and I can fit in them and be comfortable enough to walk the dog and such.

But in the next breath I read about people putting a stone on from start to finish .. so misleading!

I'm almost 28 weeks now and reckon I've put on about 5kg/11lbs at a push. It's reassuring to see other people say similar things, as I don't think you get much sympathy from other mums-to-be when moaning about lack of weight gain! Grin

At my 25 week appointment, baby was growing fine, midwife didn't worry about weighing me and said it's absolutely no problem for baby if you don't put on much - or even any - weight. Hope that helps. x

Chichz · 01/06/2020 13:48

P.s. I reckon most of that has been in the last couple of weeks when I've actually made an effort to eat more calorific food! Wondering now if I'm going to regret that and end up putting on loads of weight in the next ten weeks, haha.

Wanderer1 · 01/06/2020 13:55

I lost in first trimester, gained in second, and am static in third. 34 weeks and total weight gain had been 13lb. Last 8 weeks I've been totally static despite eating for Britain

BlueGreenYellowRed · 01/06/2020 14:07

Most people put on more in their third trimester. I find this graph reassuring.

I'm 32 weeks and have put on 19lbs, mostly in second half of the second trimester.

I initially gained half a stone right at the very beginning due to stopping smoking, then lost 8lbs between weeks 7-16 due to hyperemesis. I was then putting on 2-2.5lb a week until week 26 and now seem to be putting on 1lb every 3 weeks! My diet/activity levels haven't changed since the hyperemesis stopped, so I think I'm just using up more calories now.

I look like I've lost weight from face/arms/legs and just have a lovely big round bump at the front! BMI was 27 before pregnancy - your previous weight will make a difference to how much weight you'll gain and what is advised

Superscientist · 01/06/2020 14:25

I lost 4kg in the first trimester, I'm 29 weeks now and I have put on 8kg total or 4kg going by pre-pregnancy weight.
I asked my midwife last week which weight to go by and she said to judge my weight from my lowest pregnancy weight. She weighed me and was happy with the weight gain from my booking appointment which was about my lowest pregnancy weight, my BMI was 20 at my booking appointment.
