Elective Caesarean advice please

Hi there,

I need some advice please.

What is the latest you can talk about an elective caesarean? I am 32 weeks + 4.

I may be medically offered one but if not I feel it is the way I would like to go.

I was in hospital for a few days last week as I had rapid heart rate and low blood pressure and a little bleed. My heart rate reaches 140 upon standing up even now I’m home. The heart rate and blood pressure is still the same and I’m told may not change and will be looked at after baby is here. I had an ecg and bloods and all is good but they think this won’t change.

I want to express my concerns to the consultant next week that I can’t walk or stand for more than a few mins without my heart pounding, getting breathless and light-headed.

What do you think?

Hope I’ve made sense! Sorry for the panic 😀

Hi,
As far as I'm aware you can ask pretty much up until birth for an elective section, although I suppose the sooner you ask the better. You'll get your date and that will put your mind at ease.
I assume you're under consultant care anyhow? I would get in touch with your midwife as soon as you can and ask, if she seems wary/reluctant just ask to make an appt with your consultant.

Good luck!

By the way, I hope you start to feel a bit more normal soon. Sure this heat is not helping!! Drink lots and rest of you can!

@Tyrannosaurusdrip thanks so much! I have an appt next Thursday which will be dead on 34 weeks. Baby was measuring around 4lbs at 30 weeks. I will call midwife tomorrow to see if I can get into contact before then.

Thank you :):) xx

Right up to the end ime.

I saw a m/w in the Vbac clinic around 32 weeks I think for a debrief of my first cs, why it happened, why it went wrong, likelihood of it happening again etc. It was very useful btw. I was given some reading material- again not biased, well referenced and extremely helpful. I was not asked to make a decision until my next appt at 37 ish weeks.

I decided on an elective. Saw the m/w in clinic, told her. Referred to and saw the surgeon then and there, and booked in for the following week (there was a reason it needed to be 38 weeks ish).

My little boy turned to breech at 36 weeks (I knew nothing about it, it was picked up at a routine scan) and so was offered an elective c-section for 39 weeks but my waters went at 37+6 so they bought it forward to 38 weeks exactly.
So - I was 36+4 on the day my section was first booked. I'd chat to your consultant next week and I think she/he will be all ears to listen to your concerns.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon
