Still no scans date!

Hi! I am 11+2 and haven't received a letter for my 12 week scan yet. Is that normal? I had my booking appointment at 8 weeks so it's been a while - wondering whether to chase it up or whether they don't usually send letters out until the last minute 🤷🏼‍♀️

Give them a call, the letter may have gotten lost in the post

I booked my scan appointment at the end of my 8 week booking in appt there and then. A letter was sent out in post to confirm. Definitely ring them x

Definitely give them a ring, but no need to panic - it's OK to do the scan up to 14 weeks according to the NHS website.

I didn't get my scan letter/date till I was about 12 and a half weeks.
The scan itself was when I was 13+6

Just phone the scan department. If you ring the hospital and ask the operator for ’obstetric ultrasound’ they’ll be able to put you through to the right people. They might have a backlog, they might have lost your referral, the letter might have gone missing... but at least you’ll know!

(same with the '20 week scan' aka anomaly scan which can be done between 18 and 21 weeks)

Most hospitals will book for somewhere between 12 and 12+3/4/5 where possible to allow for a discrepancy in the dates. If you book for 13+5 for example and then find the pregnancy is measuring ahead, you can miss the screening window.

I was told at my booking appointment that my chosen hospital rarely book anyone in before 13 weeks so I knew it would be later than 12 weeks (this was pre-covid and it is a very busy hospital)

Oh, and there is a different screening test that can be done if it turns out you are over 14 weeks.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong to for hospitals to book you in earlier or later, I'm simply stating that this is how it's done in some trusts (including mine).

Thanks people! I had my booking appointment on 7th May so almost 4 weeks ago 😳 - I just hope I haven't been forgotten or slipped through the system. I've tried to call the hospital 3 times and I've had 'there's nobody here to take your call, try again later' 🙄. It's totally fine if they don't send letters out until after 11 weeks but most people I talk to seem to think I should have heard by now. I've called my midwife and waiting for her to call back. Thanks everyone!

With my first I didn't receive a letter until 12 weeks and scan was at 13+4. My second I got to 11 weeks so was expecting the same kind of thing, then got a text reminder for scan in 2 days! I would keep trying the number if I was you.

Finally managed to get through to the hospital - they booked my scan on the day I became 11 weeks and sent the letter out then - I haven't received letter yet but it should be here tomorrow or Wednesday - it's booked for when I'm 13+2 😀. Anyway - glad it's sorted - thanks for the help!
