Hi all,

Looking for some advice please.

This is my first pregnancy and I decided to have a reassurance scan at 8 weeks. The scan showed that I only measured 6 weeks 3 days with a CRL of 6.7mm however there was no heartbeat.

I have been asked to go back in 2 weeks for another scan but I don’t know if there is any hope for me :( has anybody had a similar experience? I feel so deflated!

Hi OP.

You won't see your babies heartbeat on a scan until your gone 7 weeks, so the sonographer should have told you this to put your mind at ease.
I had a scan at 7+4 and babies heartbeat was quite clear.
All being well your little bundle just needs to grow a bit more 🥰
If you're not bleeding or in any pain the chances are that everything is ok. 👍🏻

Thank you so much for replying, that does make me feel better actually 💜 just broke my heart and I thought as it was internal it would be clear on the screen! Hopefully it’s better news in 2 weeks when I go back :) x

You tend to see/heartbeat between 6 and 7 weeks but it's different for everyone.

I had my first scan when i should have been 7+5 by LMP but baby only measured 6+1 (with a hb thankfully). I went back 2 weeks later and baby measured 8+2 so had grown proportionately and I'm now over 29 weeks.

Obviously not every story is a success story but it does happen. It's not uncommon for babies to measure small in very early pregnancy and it's not unheard of for there to be no hb before 7 weeks.

Good luck

Thank you for sharing, I’m trying to stay positive and hope that in 2 weeks it will be a different story :) I thought I had ovulated late so that didn’t worry me too much but the heartbeat really scared me - I guess it could go either way but it’s best to try and be positive! congratulations on your pregnancy too! :) x

Hey. This happened to me as well. I remember how upset and worried I was and I'm sending you all my love. My little girl is now six months old. I had just ovulated later than I thought I had. Very best of luck xxx

When did you start to get positive tests?

Southend12 · 31/05/2020 19:45

Thank you for sharing the success story with me 💜 so happy it worked out for you! I was just so shocked to not see a heartbeat and to hear that they couldn’t confirm it was viable without it really scared me! No pain or bleeding so I’m going to try and keep positive and think of stories like yours and it may turn out okay :) if it doesn’t I have to remember everything happens for a reason x
