Resting heart rate drop

Hi there,
I'm currently 6 weeks and 5 days and I've noticed over the last week that my resting heart rate has gradually dropped from 65bpm down to 59bpm. Is this something to be concerned about? Measuring with a Fitbit which I know being a wrist monitor isn't always accurate but have found the overall resting heart rate pretty consistent. I'm probably reading too much into this but with so little contact from midwife at this early stage I'm hoping for some reassurance!

I wouldn't worry about it. I used to wear a Garmin but took it off a few days after finding out I was pregnant, as I started to obsess over my heart rate and worry about any drops. There's not a whole lot on information out there about heart rate in pregnancy, but some variation is bound to be natural. It's one of those things you can't control so I found it better not to know!

I worried a little with this as mine has barely changed since pre-pregnancy or gone up slightly over a few days and then dropped again. I'm 13 weeks now and just accepted that it's not really a sign of anything for me. Plus as you say, wrist based monitors aren't hugely accurate. If you are going to stress and worry about it, I just wouldn't wear it to sleep any more.

@CarolineCS Omg its as if I could have written this exactly myself! Mine has done the same, dropped from around 64ish to 59-60- its had me worried too! Im 7 weeks tomorrow and have a scan in the morning so will soon find out if its anything to worry about!

I used to wear my Fitbit everyday, about 6 weeks the same thing happened to me, my HR dropped and I was convinced I was about to miscarry. I'm currently 29+4 so clearly it didn't mean anything.
My best advice is to stop wearing it, I'm so glad I did!

Thanks so much for the responses ladies! Definitely has put my mind at ease. @EllieJai44 I would love to hear how you get on at your scan and if they have any insights 😊

I really would stop wearing it. It’s not really accurate or a medical device, and fitbits don’t have a pregnancy setting which just annoyed me in itself. I’m 31 weeks and took mine off for good last week, best thing I’ve done, my HR was fluctuating on and off throughout btw.

ablisha · 31/05/2020 22:45

I would agree with @Birdy1991 I took mine off as it was making me so paranoid!

ACatCalledLola · 31/05/2020 23:27

I posted on here a few weeks ago about exactly the same thing. My resting heart rate went up at first and decreased by around 5bpm at around 7-8 weeks. I’m 17 weeks now and it’s around the same which is around 10 bpm over pre pregnancy hr.

ACatCalledLola · 31/05/2020 23:30

This is mine. Found out I was pregnant at the beginning of March then worried when it dropped a few weeks later but all was fine. I think it was just my body adjusting.

At the start of pregnancy from around 5 weeks mine went up to the 70s from what used to be around 56, I took it as a good sign as I had read about how HR increasing with pregnancy. Then it started dropping back down and I became so stressed that something bad would happen my solution was to remove my Fitbit which was a big deal for me because I’m obsessed with step count!
Anyway, I’ve only in the last week put it back on - I’m 20+4 now! Feeling reassured by little ones movements and trying not to obsess.

EllieJai44 · 01/06/2020 11:16

@CarolineCS had scan this morning and all was fine! Saw heartbeat :)

@EllieJai44 Congratulations! That's fantastic news 😀.. how many weeks are you now? Must be such a magical feeling when you see that. I'm 7 weeks now and have just booked to go for a private scan at 9 weeks. Couldn't wait!

@ACatCalledLola thanks for sharing that and giving me some good reassurance. I got the Fitbit at the start of lockdown to motivate me to get out walking every day which worked but I reckon I could do that without the Fitbit now!

@CarolineCS I'm 7 weeks today from LMP but baby measures 6 weeks and 3 days which I expected to be slightly behind as I usually ovulate later

Pol96 · 10/06/2020 04:33

I'm worrying about the same thing with rhr, I stupidly turned it on when I found out I was pregnant so I could monitor sleep better. I'm 7+6 today and absolutely everything (rhr dropping a bit, cramps etc) cause me to panic. This is my first pregnancy. Let me know how your scan goes op

CarolineCS · 10/06/2020 06:09

@Pol96 I've let it go out of my mind for now, all my other symptoms are ramping up so I think everyone's right. Still using it to keep an eye on my step count and also encourage me to get enough sleep and I find that really beneficial. Have an early scan booked in for next Monday and I'll be 9 weeks so will let you know how that goes 🤞🏻.. try not to worry and take it easy x

@CarolineCS I've turned my hr monitor off so I can still use it for step count etc now. But I'm so anxious, I have barely any symptoms and what I do have are weak.. Good luck with your scan next week x
