Anyone else dying for a drink?!

I am DYING for a drink!!! I enjoyed casual drinking before falling pregnant and I know I sound like I have a problem with the capital letters and desperation but honestly I didn’t/don’t lol I just really want a couple of glasses of wine, or an aperol spritz or 2, or a beer, or a G&T- or anything really!! I’m 18 weeks so still have a long time to go.

Anyone else really struggling with this? It’s bothering me a lot more than I expected, not sure if it’s the gorgeous weather. I am so jealous of my husband enjoying his beers and wine in the garden. I’ve got some alcohol free beers and tried alcohol free Prosecco but it just isn’t cutting it. I have the tiniest sip of my husbands beer sometimes and had a dribble (and I mean dribble) of red wine last week but so scared of FAS I just couldn’t bring myself to have a beer or anything even though I know I might be a bit over paranoid.

Roll on post baby drinks!!

Gordon’s do some quite nice non alcohol pre mixed g&ts.

I have been having a small drink once a week, something like lemonade with a dash of wine to make me think it’s a nice drink but with minimal alcohol. I know it’s not the current guidance but the guidance was a few units a week is fine up until very recently, and remains so in other countries, and there has been no new research to suggest there can be harm caused from drinking tiny amounts. FAS is caused by very high levels of alcohol consumption.

I really enjoy a drink normally, it’s not especially bothering me this time round.

Gigitree · 30/05/2020 15:22

I’m not normally fussed about having a drink. I can go Weeks/months without having a drink and it really doesn’t phase me and I breezed through the first and second trimester without giving it a second thought. But since lockdown and this lovely weather hit I’ve been desperate for a cocktail or three 😜
Or even just a fruity cider!

Goldenmother · 30/05/2020 15:25

I'be found myself wishing for a glass of Prosecco or a cold shandy I think it more to do with the weather being lovely I've only 3 weeks to go and then I'll enjoy a nice cold shandy

december2020 · 30/05/2020 15:28

Oh god! I dream of having a cold white wine with dinner in the garden on a sunny evening eating fresh sushi.

It's one of the first things on my "hit list" post pregnancy (though I'm due in December so it may have to be indoors).

PAJJ · 30/05/2020 15:58

ME! I definitely think it's partly the weather and lockdown, although, I'm 34 weeks so on the home run! It did come in waves though, some months I wasn't bothered at all.

@acquiescence I've been doing exactly the same, a splash of wine in some soda which seems to satisfy me once a week or so. I really think tiny amounts don't pose a risk, considering this was the guidance up until recently!

@december2020 I have big plans for my Christmas drinks and banned in pregnancy cheese/cured meat/pate board Grin

Im 28 weeks and sometimes on the very odd occasion I’ll have a can of brothers rhubarb and custard it’s about 2 units nothing major. I think of you drink every day it’s bad but one every now and again is nothing and certainly wouldn’t cause FAS

Mucklowe · 30/05/2020 16:21

I'm craving Guinness. I wasn't even a big drinker before getting pregnant, but would murder a creamy pint of the black stuff. Wish they made a non alcoholic version!

MooChops89 · 30/05/2020 16:22

I've been enjoying lots of non-alcoholic Kopparberg in this weather - tastes exactly the same!

Kimro90 · 30/05/2020 16:29

Yes, me! I’m 12 weeks and normally love a drink. It hasn’t bothered me up to now but the last couple of days I’ve felt seriously hard done to and think it might be because the rest of the world seems to be sipping something lovely in the sunshine! I will likely have the odd drink eventually, but is 12 weeks far too soon? I’ve no idea of the norm!

AliasGrape · 30/05/2020 16:33

I’m like Gigitree in that in day to day life I’m really not fussed about a drink. I never drink in the week and can go weeks if not months without one. I always imagined I’d be totally unbothered in pregnancy and not miss it at all.

Then I found out I was pregnant right before my hen do, so had to do that (which was a cocktail bar then a meal at a place where they do my favourite wine and then a bar hut thing at the Christmas markets where they practically threw free drinks at us), and then my wedding, and then Christmas, then honeymoon which also included New Years - all without a drink. And I really missed it.

The intervening months I was mostly not bothered, but now with the lovely weather I’m missing it again and fantasising about ice cold G+T’s with loads of lemon or an aperol or Campari spritz. I’ve had a few non alcoholic ciders and some no-secco stuff, but it’s not really worth it for me. I’ve started buying posh soft drinks like the fancy cordials or I love the cawston press rhubarb and apple drinks, I try to pretend that they’re a ‘treat’ instead.

Flumo · 30/05/2020 16:36

Yes!!! I'm 35 weeks and have been enjoying the non alcoholic cider but definitely isnt the same 🥵

Clemmie83 · 30/05/2020 16:40

I'm the same, desperate for a lovely drink in the sunshine, have tried so many non alcoholic alternatives and they just don't cut it!

sel2223 · 30/05/2020 17:05

I definitely think it's the weather!

I've enjoyed the odd non alcoholic cider or glass of nosecco in the garden but it's not the same. I could murder a glass of wine.

ChampooPapi · 30/05/2020 17:45

Drools at the thought of aperol spritz 🤤

I'm only 15 weeks and usually the obsession with a cold generous pour doesn't come until I'm well into the third trimester! This third time around it's here now so it's 100% the weather and long light evenings.

We associate those things with drinking alcohol too so it's literally branded into us by this point in our lives!

Byets · 30/05/2020 20:13

Omg op I am really really struggling! 😂 I'm almost 32 weeks and am starting to go insane I think lol. I've always loved a drink and am in seeerious need of one! Just want a cider in the sun!!!😩😩😩

Glad I'm not the only one struggling this much lol

Emberfoot · 30/05/2020 20:37

I made it to 36wk so far, but the last few days I have really started fancying a wine again. Sucks because I am going to be in hospital for a while, while baby has surgery etc, so not gonna be able to drink for a good while still 😒

toomuchteaandcake · 31/05/2020 10:04

Every time someone not pregnant moans about lockdown I remind them I've been sober through all of this 😤
