Hi ladies I’m 34 weeks now and Iv been feeling some really uncomfortable shooting pains down below even the the baby moves I can literally feel him. I had a midwife appointment and she said baby is quite low. So with theses random pains coming I just thought I’d google to see how I’d know if baby has engaged and this is what I found and then I looked on my notes and this is what I found. Does this mean he can come any minute?

Sadly not! My first was engaged for weeks and weeks. I didn’t get as many of those shooting pains in the cervix (they take your breath away sometimes don’t they!) as I have with this second pregnancy, but I am 37 weeks with this one and have been getting them for weeks. It’s all good stuff as baby is getting in a good position for birth and moving lower but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll come really soon.

Good luck!

PS 3/5 on your notes means the amount of baby’s head midwife can feel above your pelvis. When it is 1/5 or 0/5 baby’s head is all the way in your pelvis and fully engaged

I had a scan at 36 weeks and it took 2 hours because baby's head was fully engaged and they struggled to measure the blood flow to the brain...he was 2 weeks late!
