Supermarket shopping

I'm 35 weeks and have been nowhere near a supermarket since pregnant ladies were placed in the vulnerable category on 16th March.
Has anyone else carried on doing the weekly supermarket shop? Has anyone else seem many pregnant ladies in the supermarkets?

I've had to do it a few times, I'm 28 weeks now. I can't say I've taken notice of other pregnant women when I've been. I've got a very obvious bump and haven't noticed anyone looking at me like I shouldn't be there or anything. Did have an absolute lunatic ranting and raving at me last week though when I went down the wrong aisle and hadn't realised I wasn't following the arrows, I'd missed the booze aisle out for obvious reasons but hadn't thought it through. She was very unpleasant, calling me names and saying I was going to kill people! A complete overreaction on her part I feel and a bit concerning that she thought the rules gave her a pass to be aggressive to a lone pregnant woman Confused

I haven't been out yet but tbh I've been very confused about what we can and can't do until recently, I now understand though pregnancy is a vulnerable group we don't have to isolate unless high risk ie heart problems.

I've been lucky that my OH has done all the shops so far or parents have dropped stuff off outside the door. I imagine in the next few weeks I'll brave it but I'm anxious to let lockdown ease a few weeks before going for it x

I have been out in the last few weeks. Heavily pregnant (currently 39+6)
I wear a baggy top so it's not as obvious as I'm paranoid people will judge me...but I've never had any looks off anyone.

Also go down to a local shop alot & one of the girls working there is pregnant.

edgeware · 29/05/2020 14:11

I am only 18 weeks but am going about as normal. The advice is social distancing not isolation. I am healthy and so far a few weeks going to the shops hasn’t given me covid.

Lindor2828 · 29/05/2020 14:17

I've been to supermarkets a few times (currently 40 weeks!) never had any strange looks and I've seen other pregnant women whilst there too.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 29/05/2020 14:24

I've been going. Im obviously pregnant, never had any looks and I dont care if anyone did look to be honest.
Risks in our area are pretty low and I enjoy going

I’ve been to supermarkets at least weekly since lockdown started, I’m quite obviously pregnant now at 34 weeks, and no one has batted an eyelid apart from the customer service lady in Sainsbury’s who gave me a self-service scanny thing because of my “condition” 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve seen a few other pregnant ladies doing the rounds too.

FilthyforFirth · 29/05/2020 14:38

DH has been doing the main shop but I have popped to the local one maybe 5 times. Have an obvious bump and no one said anything. I would go mad stuck in the whole time.

Lemonpink88 · 29/05/2020 14:45

I’m 35/40 too & also havent been anywhere since 28 weeks which I thought was the advice, as high risk in third trimester? We just get weekly delivery. I do have a one year old too so supermarket runs wouldn’t exactly be an in and out job tho so maybe I would have if I’d older children or first time mum & needed something.

I've only been out when I HAVE to go (partner is a key worker and sometimes can be gone for 24-48 hours at a time)

I went to boots to grab the last bits I needed for baby and hospital bag. I'm 33 weeks.

I had an old man tell me it was lovely to see a pregnant person again and we are rare these days and how he thinks it's all so lovely. He was a little cutie and I felt for him, not sure he's actually spoken to many people since lockdown.

But I also had one person tell me I "should be at home" and tut at me. Which was ironic as she was an older lady and I wouldn't be surprised if she was over 70.

Overall it's not too bad. I kept myself to myself. Kept my distance. Wrote a list. Picked up only what I needed and then sanitised in the car. It was fine.

I'm 25weeks and not been anywhere since being told I was in the vulnerable group. Luckily husband has got the shopping etc. And a local market delivers, so all fresh fruit and veg for baby come from them👍
I thought we were supposed to stay in😬😬
Or is this just the case at 28wks or not at all. I'm so confused 🙈🙈

Zoey92 · 29/05/2020 15:04

36+5 here & still done my weekly shop.
Always done it mid week & in afternoons when it seemed quieter.
Tbh its the bloody highlight of my week its the only time i get out now 😂

babynoname23 · 29/05/2020 15:04

I'm 28 weeks and planning on doing my weekly shop tomorrow. I've been going once a week all through lockdown and no one has said anything. I just like going myself, would hate to see what we would have to eat if DP was doing the shop

Sunsage · 29/05/2020 15:06

25 weeks here, I've been going to the supermarket as normal and the local shop, nipped into super drug the other day too! Cases are very low where I live so I'm pretty comfortable, keeping with the social distancing of course!

MrsGEW · 29/05/2020 16:47

Thanks for all your responses...

Well I took a trip to Lidl in the end this afternoon. Tbh after not going for weeks on end I've been going stir crazy. I work from home so some weeks I've barely left the house apart from a small walk around the block!
I felt very reassured by the measures they had in place and everyone was so polite and observed the 2 metre rule. It was quite quiet too so no big queues.
Think I might go again next week... 😁
