Hi, can anyone help, this is my first PG and I'm 9 weeks at the moment. Aswell as many of the normal symptoms I've got a sore left armpit, its tender, very like my breats are at the moment, although I only really notice it when washing, it also feels slightly swollen and has been like this for a couple of weeks, not really getting any worse or better, is this just another one of those symptoms that we get when PG, or do I need to get it checked out? I've got my first midwife appointment on the 18th and could ask her then.
Thanks

I think the glands of the breasts go up into the armpits - but it doesn't sound normal - I would check it out with the GP.

I would get it checked out to be on the safe side, but when i was pregnant my first symptom was sore boobs - i spent a whole lunch time looking up breast cancer on the web as i hadn't realised i was pregnant!

It sounds to me like it could be one of two things. There are Lymph glands in & around the armpit region which can become swollen as a result of infection & illness. The mass influx of hormones in pregnancy can also cause them to become tender & inflammed.
The second thought i had was an ingrown hair follicle. I had this once & was convinced it was a tumour! It was just an ingrown hair that caused an abcess to brew under the surface making it very painful indeed!

Either way, i wouldn't rush down to A&E just yet, but i would definately tell the midwife on the 18th!

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I saw the midwife and she says that the milk ducts go right up into your armpits and this is what is causing swelling and tenderness, just the same as my breats. She did say its unusual to only have it one side and that she hoped I wouldn't stay too 'lopsided'!
