Low lying placenta, small bleed, in hospital

At my 20w scan, the tip of my placenta was covering cervix. At 32w scan last week it had moved but was still low lying. I'm booked in for elcs anyway due to previous emcs.

Yesterday I had some red blood on wiping, so was told to come to mat unit to be checked. I'm still here! I've had no red blood since yesterday afternoon but regularly have brown blood now on wiping and this morning got first of the 2 steroid injections as a precaution 😬

Desperately missing my 1 year old and partner, so just looking for reassurance and experiences of how long anyone was kept in for with similar low blood loss. Baby's heartbeat has been fine on trace and he's active.

Anyone? The no visiting Covid rules certainly don't help just now. Really gives a small sense of how horrendous this situation has been, and is for those really ill in hospital who can't have visitors 😢

No advice here sorry, but didnt want to read and run. Hopefully someone else can share their experience. Hope all is ok and youve been allowed home!

Following as also have a low lying placenta, I’m 33 weeks and although no bleeding I am constantly on edge waiting for it to happen.

I feel for you and I hope they let you out soon. Keep us updated xx

Mummyspider27 · 29/05/2020 17:50

@Sprintfinish how are you? Any update? X

Sprintfinish · 29/05/2020 22:15

Thanks x I got home today thankfully. Wonderful to be home with my boys but on edge every time I go to toilet and have repacked my hospital bag as had only packed basics thinking wouldn't need it for weeks! It's now much fuller!

Just concerned that a small bleed meant 2 nights in hospital, really hope was a one off 🤞🤞🤞

I'm glad you are at home now and sorry you've got to worry about this.

I had complete placenta pervia and a big bleed at 32 weeks. They kept me in until the bleeding had stopped (2 nights as well) and gave me steroids as well. They actually wanted to keep me in until I gave birth after that, but I only lived a mile away so managed to negotiate going home. I think covid might've worked in your favor here , bizarrely.

I ended up having a perfectly health baby after a second bleed at 36 weeks. The bleeding had stopped again so it wasn't strictly an emergency, but the decision was taken to get her out while everything was calm and under control.

Definitly get those hospital bags packed, and try and take it as easy as you can with a young boy. You might want to consider a waterproof mattress cover if you have one as well, although it sounds like your bleed was a lot smaller than mine.

Also, its great you've had the steroids, they will help if baby is a bit early.

Good luck. I know it is enormously worrying (I developed insomia) but the baby is 32 (33?) weeks now and likely to be fine even if they do come a bit early.

Sprintfinish · 30/05/2020 04:04

@RenegadeMrs I seem to have developed insomnia too nowa! Thanks for sharing, reassuring you had a bigger bleed yet were still OK until 36w.

Baby is 33+3, going forward I now feel every day he stays inside is a bonus. I hate how pregnancy can change so suddenly.

I am glad you are home with your family now.

I had a low lying placenta and bleed at 33 weeks, quite a heavy one but it stopped after about 4 hours. I had the steroid injection and was kept in for 2 nights. I wasn’t put on bed rest but was told to take it very easy for at least a week. I was surprised how long the brown bleeding continued for, about 2 weeks in the end if I remember correctly.

I had no more bleeding and had my c-section at 38 weeks. I only lost 400ml during the delivery. So a pretty good outcome in the end!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, I hope the rest passes without drama.

Thanks @Carbis x

I've had a little red spotting again this morning 😔 have come back to bed and will monitor it. Reluctant to contact maternity unless it gets heavier as expect they'll admit me again. So just lying here feeling my active bump jump about.

Hi, how are you getting on? I'm waiting for a scan at 28 weeks to see if my placenta has moved, wondering if movements feel any differently for people with low lying placenta 🤔

whocanibe2day · 30/05/2020 20:50

Not to scare you, but I wouldn't take chances with this. I'm not going to tell you why, but I just wouldn't. Best of luck and I hope the bleeding stops soon. You really should call the hospital.

Sprintfinish · 30/05/2020 23:01

I had a tiny bit of blood this morning and nothing since. Had it been heavier than a smudge on wiping I would have called straightaway. It's so bloody stressful.

I've felt that this baby is more active than my first, not sure if it's due placenta position or not.
