Does pregnancy make allergies worse?

I've always had a minor reaction to grass since I was little, after sitting on grass for long periods of time I'd always go a bit red and bumpy.

However, since I've been pregnant I seem to have become extra sensitive?! Even if I sit on grass for 2 minutes, there's a guaranteed itchy, swollen rash on my legs. I leant my wrists back off my picnic blanket yesterday and it even affected my wrists!!

I'm probably being daft and it's probably obvious that pregnancies make allergies worse but I can't believe how much it seems to have an impact! Unless my allergy has suddenly just got a lot worse haha

Pregnancy does heighten your allergies and my hayfever has been brutal since March, when the blossom started appearing and people started cutting the grass!
Just been popping the citirizine since 13 weeks pregnant. God help me if I forget 😂😂

Currently 21 weeks and my hayfever has been the worst in years! It's really bad and affecting my asthma 😩 Struggling with even sitting in the house 😒

Yes my hayfever is also out of control! Sneezing is also becoming a riskier pastime the further I get into my third trimester... Blush

My hayfever has been out of control this year, pretty sure I haven't been able to breathe through my nose clearly since March.

My allergy went mad during pregnancy number one. It was so bad it was a factor that made me consider not having another child. Weirdly, in pregnancy number 2 it stopped completely and has never really returned.

Obviously landing a second pregnancy is a bit extreme though... 😃

I've developed an allergy since being pregnant - to white gold which means I can't wear my engagement ring Sad. I hope it disappears when baby is born so I can wear it again!

I've been sneezing loads but I think that is just pregnancy congestion.

I was much better during both of my pregnancies!

@lockdownpregnancy hi there, I am 22 weeks pregnant now and am suffering terribly with allergies. Itchy mouth and eyes are the main culprits. I can't go a day without popping a cetirizine, some days I have to take 2. (Am and pm).
How old is your baby now? And have you noticed any side effects from the allergies? I have read some studies linking allergies in pregnancy to autism and I am worrying.

@Freshfaced hi there,
Do you mind me asking how your child is now? I have read some studies about allergies in pregnancy linked to some cognitive problems such as autism and adhd and I am freaking out.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2021 12:28

Yes it happened to me, especially in the second trimester but seems to have calmed down now. I take a cetirizine tablet every day, but in the second trimester it would feel like I hadn’t even taken one! Itchy mouth, nose, eyes and runny nose, it was awful!
