Is there a good travel cot/baby crib?

Looking for a good travel cot, which will be used in our bedroom from birth, but would also like it to last til our baby is 2yrs approx and can be used for travel?

Most i've seen mattresses are not good or reviews are poor :(

We like the moses baskets and bedside cribs, but these only last for the baby until 6mths and seems a bit silly to buy one and also a travel cot too...

You can get proper mattresses for travel cots. One with a bassinet section would be good for a newborn.

Why long term in a travel cot - is it space?

My kids never slept properly in a travel cot and it would do your back in getting them in and out.

We have had a couple of different ones and the matresses were awful. We just bought a separate mattress to put in and it was fine (though a pest having to take an extra mattress when we went away anywhere)

We have a babybjorn travel cot which has a great mattress and is in fact so comfy that for a long time DD slept better in it than in her cot; so much so DP felt we should ditch the cot completely.

But it was pricey - at the time we were travelling a lot so felt worth it. It’s suitable from birth but you would probably do your back in using it as your main cot from then, unless you can get an insert - I don’t know unfortunately.

Well the baby will be on our room for 12-months - so don't want to buy two cots, may aswell have a proper built cot in the baby room and a travel one in ours.

Gosh that is a deep travel cot, you would do your back in! haha

You will have no chance transferring a sleeping newborn into a travel cot. Absolutely not what you’ll be wanting to do umpteen times a night.
Definitely a bedside crib or moses basket when they are tiny, they’ll be far too small for a travel cot too-they like to feel snug in the first trimester.
Get one 2nd hand for pennies with a new mattress.

Yeah if you are planning to use it all the time I'd just get a second hand side sleeper cot and buy a new mattress. We used our travel cot as a playpen in the living room when she was a bit bigger though so it got plenty use!
