CRAVING DETTOL

I am craving Detol so bad it's been about 2 weeks now since it has started but it's just getting worse and worse, I use it to clean my floors and work tops which is completely fine so my midwife says.. I do not want to drink it but I am finding my self pouring it on kitchen roll and taking it everywhere with me smelling it.. shopping , to bed, to dining table when I'm eating, watching tv... I literally put it over my nose and do like a big sniff of it and it's like a fix it's so weird lol but yesterday I had midwife appt and he measuring 1cm small and have to have a scan tomoz to check everything's ok ( heard this happens a lot to people as measuring your bump is not an accurate thing and also it wasn't my usual midwife doing it) so I got worried then thinking it was me inhaling detol could it be a cause of it , so I stopped all day yday and today but tonight when I got in to bed I have not been able to settle until I have gone in my car and got out the kitchen roll that has dried detol on it (trying to not do a fresh piece of kitchen roll with it on everyday as it is a lot stronger when wet) has anyone else had this, it's like an addiction.. I'm sat in bed wanting to go downstairs and clean my floors and put more detol on this piece of kitchen roll as it has worn of

My mum was obsessed with creosote (yeah, the stuff you paint fences with!!) when she was pregnant with me. She said she would have drank it if she could.

You don’t have morning sickness still do you? I know people find that type of smell helpful for that so just wondered if that was part of it? Also with weird cravings it’s sometimes helpful to have your iron levels checked... but other than that it’s probably just one of those things, maybe don’t go nuts on it but it probably isn’t doing any harm as long as you don’t follow Trump’s advice and start swallowing or injecting it...

I craved the smell of old fashioned Vim powder, my bath and cooker were nearly worn out by all that abrasion!
I also lingered by building sites to smell the brick dust, and had a brick at home to lick Blush.

I got a bit obsessed with washing up liquid, the dark green one towards the end of my last pregnancy and started to smell it all the time. Some women do crave odd things due to a vitamin deficiency so maybe mention it to your mid wife so this can be checked but I also think craving smells is quite common x

Do u take vitamins as I'm sure if ur lacking in something u can get cravings...I took pregnecare all through my pregnancy xx

I have this too, i thought I was the only one haha lol. I just can't get enough of it

Rubyrecka · 11/07/2021 18:04

That's odd! I'm sure I've read if u start craving stuff that isn't food u should speak to your midwife

To be fair I love the smell of dettol even when I’m not pregnant. I put a little in the bath and then the whole house smell lush 🤤

royalqueenofdarkness · 19/07/2021 00:59

I have that too, I just can't get enough of the smell even when I'm not pregnant and the smell is addictive so...

Harmless as long as you don't drink it. Dab a little behind your ears when you are going out, it will deter vampires.

I liked Frish lavatory cleaner :-) (mind you I wasn't pregnant then so have no excuse).

During my first pregnancy I was the same but with bleach, I would soak my kitchen clothes in bleach and take long sniffs, I could have drunk it from the bottle. I googled it and apparently it’s quite common if you have an iron deficiency, which I had, so it’s worth getting checked x
