Gender scan

So I have a gender scan booked today for 5:30 and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make sure baby is awake? I'm super nervous that baby will be in the wrong position so thinking if baby is awake then the ultrasound tech will have more of a chance at spotting the gender. TIA. X

I wouldn't count on that..... my baby has been wide awake at every scan and has been wriggling and spinning around like crazy making it very hard to see anything clearly! So much so, I had to go back for a rescan after my 20 weeks scan as she was moving so much they couldn't get all the measurements they needed!
The sonographer will know what to do and will have plenty of tips to get baby moving if needs be. No need to overthink it.

@sel2223 thank you for your reply! I did have a Lucozade just before going in (my with my 12 weeks scan my baby was very lazy and in an awkward position which is why I wanted to give things a nudge this time) and it was a good job I did too, baby was upside down with legs crossed for almost the whole scan until the sonographer told me that the Lucozade much be kicking in and she managed to see that I'm having a little boy 😊😊

@JEB17 congratulations! I have my 20 week scan this afternoon, I'm getting nervous! I feel like I have a lazy baby too... I still haven't felt any movements yet!

I would say don't bother with sugar, fizzy drinks etc. I did for 20 week and growth scan and baby was sleepy for the whole scan both times. I'd say a brisk 30 min walk before the scan so hopefully baby wakes when you stop moving

To be honest awake or not it doesn’t always help. Mine was kicking away like a good one but kept dodging out of the way. Kept his hands in front of his heart for over 2 hours, walking, drinking & star jumps eventually got him moved though.

Is it the standard nhs 20 week scan or a private scan to find out sex?

For the 20 week one mine was in the wrong position to see some of the important stuff and they told me to go an have a 20 minute walk and eat something sugary.

If it's a private one I guess they might not let you go away and come back so maybe worth having something sugary just before you go in and hopefully s/he will move around enough for them to be able to tell at some point Smile

@PostieGal how did it go?

@toomuchteaandcake ahh see I had a walk before my dating scan to get him moving but he wouldn't budge so ended up not being able to do the screening tests however I had a Lucozade before the gender scan and after about 15 minutes he was havimg a wiggle, the sonographer did say a sugary drink before hand will help 😊

@Bert2020 oh gosh what a little monkey! I'm glad you managed in the end!

@SpecialKakapo I was 16+1 at the scan I had a private one. That was my biggest worry however before the Lucozade kicked in she got me rolling over and thrusting around haha. We got there in the end 😊
